Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
We made this exactly to recipe last night and found it to be pretty disappointing. The sauce was lackluster (I'd have gotten more flavour from a can of premade sauce). No one went for seconds, which is a real rarity in our pasta loving household. The meatballs are good, but not exceptional. I wouldn't make this again.

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
This makes a great "cooling" side when served with other spicier dishes. I made this alongside a very spicy curry and it worked beautifully at mitigating the lingering spice. Only thing I changed for this recipe was that I added a tbsp of liquid concentrated chicken bouillon while this was cooking. It really added a lot to the depth of flavor for this soup.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
This tasted quite good. However I found it to be, as others have mentioned, quite watery. I'm a spice lover and so I kind of shrugged off other reviews about the cayenne pepper being too much. I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a kick this packed. It was too much for my mom who tends to like her spice at more average levels. I was left feeling that this recipe needed something more. Being a novice cook, I'm not entirely certain what this would be. Adding meat would add some texture to the dish; chicken and/or shrimp come to mind for me. I'll have to try it next time that way. All in all, it's a pretty good dish, but nothing truly spectacular.

One Dish Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
S.O. made this for dinner and followed recipe to the letter. It was really good, just the thing to come home to after a cold winter walk. But we did find it a little bland, so next time we'll be experimenting with spices.

Easy Caramelized Onion Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
These were so delicious. I'm not generally a fan of pork chops, but I followed previous reviewers instructions and sugared the onions after removing the pork. Which a difference it made to the appearance! Boyfriend gobbled them up before I'd even finished laying the rest of the meal on the table!

Tasty 2-Step Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
I was surprised with how delicious this turned out! I'm not usually a big fan of canned mushroom soup. But using the advice of other reviewers to spice things up, this turned out to be a spectacular weekday dish. I cooked my chicken fully in a small amount of water (instead of oil). I then tossed my cooked chicken breasts in the fridge overnight with 2 cloves of chopped garlic tossed on top (not mixed in). The next afternoon, the rest of the recipe was cake. I tossed the garlic from on top of the chicken, 1/4 of a chopped onion, 1 tsp of basil, and 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes into a pan with a 1/4 tsp of margarine and sauteed it all. I then added the mushroom soup and water, mixed it up and followed the rest of the recipe as written. After adding the chicken, I mixed in 1 tbsp of freshly chopped parsley to the sauce and let it simmer for 6 minutes. I served it over rice (made in the 6 minutes that the sauce simmered). When cooking the dish I thought there was way too much sauce, but it turned out to be the perfect amount with rice. S.O. loved it. Definitely a keeper.
