Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2013
I thought it was delicious! I loved the fresh tasting sauce that coats the pasta and yet has enough delicious chunks of tomatoes to eat with the chicken. Awesome! Quick and easy. Will definitely make again. Followed the advice of other users and only used 1 egg and 1 cup of bread crumbs. It was plenty. Only thing I will do differently next time is add less pepper flakes to make more kid friendly. As is it was too spicy for my four year old...who enjoyed the initial flavor but not the spicy after kick. Hubs and I can add more pepper flakes at the table. :-) Also I used chicken tender cuts as they were on sale at the store. Chicken was done in less than 5 minutes. Will probably use that cut again if in a hurry. Worth a try!

Better Than Sex Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2013
I thought it was edible but I didn't really care for it. I've definitely made better. I think the "chocolate cavity maker cake" recipe from this site is much better. Just pair the cavity maker with some cool whip on the side and voila!!...the easiest, tastiest boxed cake recipe ever! In my opinion the most "pizzazzy" thing about this "better than sex cake" is its name...the flavor is lackluster. I am very disappointed.

Turkey Gumbo

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
I enjoyed my gumbo but I couldn't give this recipe 5 stars because I modified it. My Cajun Grandmother (who was an AMAZING cook) always said the best rule of thumb for making a gumbo roux is 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup flour, 8 cups stock. So when I read this recipe I was shocked at the amount of oil, flour and stock that was called for. Goodness me...that would be some THICK, greasy stuff!!! So I followed the recipe except for those amounts. It was pretty good. Great way to use some of our leftover turkey. :-)

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
It was easy and delicious! I did double the filling...I may even triple it next time. The only critique I can give on this recipe is it doesn't tell you how large the rectangle of rolled dough should be. I rolled mine out very thin into a large rectangle. I believe it was about 18X10 inches. I jelly-rolled it length-wise. Other than that...5 stars!

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
I had never had Quinoa before but I had been wanting to try it for some time. I am VERY pleased that I found this recipe! It was DELICIOUS!! Here at our house we are trying to lower our cholesterol so this was a perfect substitution for meat as a main course. I found that once I added one can of beans it looked to be plenty so I just put the other can back on the shelf. ;-) We like a lot of spice at our house so we found this recipe to be a little bland as it is written. I had a pack of southwest spice blend so I added a few tablespoons of that as well as some lime juice to it before I served it. This is going to become a staple recipe at our house!! Highly recomend it!!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
LOVED Them!! The flavor is amazing and they are chewy just like the recipe promises. At first i measured them with a 1/4 cup scoop but changed my mind and used a cookie scoop instead and im glad i did b/c the bake up really large (I kept an eye on them while they were baking since i made them smaller than specified). This is my new go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe! I used a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and a cup of m&m minis for festive color! Im gonna go eat another one now!! Happy Baking!

Easy Mini Quiche

I just ate one and it tasted like soggy egg bread...this is not quiche! It's scrambled eggs in a muffin tin...and good luck getting these out of even a non-stick pan...

Fresh Fruit Breakfast Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
I gave this a 4 b/c it takes a very long time to make when you factor in how long it takes to prepare all those crepes! However, it is DELICIOUS! When I make it again I may take the easy way out and buy the crepes at the grocery store...all the fruit and whipped cream mix would mask any store-bought flavors anyway.

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
5 stars...if i could give this more I would! I made a few changes...of course. I used cappucino mix instead of instant cofee (just b/c I had it in the pantry)..it worked out very well. I did add more sugar to the whipped cream icing/frosting just b/c we love sweet, sweet things at our house...This recipe is WAY better than tradtional tiramisu and also easier in my opinion! Try it!

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!!!! Truly delicious and totally worth the extra effort of making the sauce from scratch. I did thin the sauce a bit with a few extra splashes of milk after I added the noodles. I was afraid they woud soak up too much of the sauce while in the oven...I think that was a good call. I didn't need to double the sauce that way. If you are considering trying this recipe I would encourage you to do so. It will not disapoint. My family thought they didn't like tuna casserole but since they have tasted this they have changed their minds!

Honey Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
I've made this recipe twice. The first time i made it exactly how it is written. And it was very bland. Not bad but it needed some help. The second time I added more garlic, a pinch or two of ground ginger, and a generous splash of pineapple juice (just b/c that was what i had in the fridge but i think orange juice would have been great tasting as well)...Voilà!! Delicious! :-)

White Chocolate Fruit Tart

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
This was just ok...I found the filling to be a little thicker than I was expecting...tasted more like cheesecake than a fruit tart. And the crust was like a cookie...It was tasty...it just wasn't the light summery dessert i was expecting. It was VERY rich!!

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
No doubt that this is the BEST chocolate cake I've EVER eaten!! And so sinfully easy to make! I switch up the liqueur depending on my mood but my favorite is a mix of amaretto and hazelnut! I bake mine in three 9 inch cake pans for about 25-35 mins. I make a chocolate mousse filling and a ganache topping using recipes from this site. You should definitely try it!!! Your friends will be begging you to make more cakes and give them you "secret" recipe! ;-)

Mock Champagne

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
This recipe is PERFECT for any afternoon or brunch gathering where you want to serve something that looks special and tastes special...but without the alcohol. I switch up the fruit garnish depending on the color theme of the gathering...blueberries for a boy baby shower...raspberry of strawberry for a girl...pineapple or kiwi for neutral...use your imagination!!
