About this Cook
Well, I'm a 20 year old Junior in college, and I'm living in an apartment for the first time this year, and I have begun to love cooking from scratch as much as possible. In my mind, if it came from a jar, box, or mix, it's not really cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking desserts, and have an affinity for pound cakes, cookies, and other things which will make me fat. Also, I'm a huge carnivore, and creative preparations of meats are a real favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother and grandmother are wonderful bakers and cooks, and make a delicious Czech nut bread called "Kolach" every Christmas. It's a little sweet, buttery, flaky and I will not rest until I can make it as well. (It's amazing!)
My cooking triumphs
I learned how to make homemade pizza dough and sauce from scratch and am now seriously considering opening a pizzeria someday. I love it, but what's more, everyone I introduce it to adores the thick, garlicy crust and spicy, sweet tomato sauce.
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing I've yet done is over mix a pound cake. In case you didn't know, mixing a pound cake batter too much makes it taste pretty much like rubber. I had to throw it out. It was very sad for me.

Frozen Pumpkin Pie
This is truly an excellent pie. One minor problem with the recipe keeps it from getting 5 stars: after baking the gingersnap crust, if you just put ice cream right on, the crust starts falling apart. The answer: freeze your baked crust for around an hour and you will be able to put on the other layers with ease. As far as taste goes, this pie is wonderful.

Baking Powder Biscuits I
Great recipe for home made biscuits. Especially good if you have some gravy to put on top. Otherwise, find a way to kick these up a notch. I put in cheddar cheese, garlic powder and italian seasoning and the biscuits tasted like the ones at Red Lobster. (So good)

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins
Very good. I was hoping they'd be moister after reading the reviews. Next time I may add more oil than is called for.
