About this Cook
I have always had an interest in cooking, but didn't actually start until I was married in 1969. For whatever reason cooking always came naturally to me and I have always enjoyed it. I started working in the school cafeteria in grade school and continued all through high school. I took some time off to have 4 sons and then started cooking at a college and did that for 9 years. I was part owner of a pie shop in Wisconsin before we moved to Illinois where I am the Foodservice Director at Judson College. I have been here 8 years now. I do pie making classes on the side.
My favorite things to cook
Baking is probably my specialty-pies, cheesecakes and cookies would be my expertise.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade pizza on Friday night-beef roast dinner with homemade dinner rolls and pie for dessert on Sunday. My kids(married and out of the house) still sometimes invite themselves over for Sunday dinner!
My cooking triumphs
My chocolate chip cookies are well known.
My cooking tragedies
The first year w ewere married I made a chocolate cake and thought the frosting tasted rather strange-I used cornstarch instead of powdered sugar-it was awful.

Old English Cream Pie Filling
I was skeptical of making this as I have made many pastry or vanilla creams and this one seemed to simple-how could it be good, right? It is delicious! I will even use this in my pastry tarts. Look no further for a simple and delicious vanilla cream?

Cinnamon Raisin Bread II
I have made lots of cinnamon raisin bread, but I do think this is by far one of the best. The only thing I altered was plumping the raisins in the microwave for a few minutes with a little water and about a tsp. of cinnamon. Let cool before adding to dough. I also added a little extra cinnamon to the dry ingredients. I prefer to do my breads on the dough cycle and then form and put in pan to raise the second time before baking in oven.

Lemon Cupcakes
I always prefer to make things from scratch but can't always find the best recipe for that. This one is amazing-so moist and flavorful! This will be my go to recipe for lemon cupcakes from now on-no need to search any further!
