Mom's Stovetop Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
My husband said this was the recipe to go to for spare ribs in our house. It was very delicious and I prefer this style than BBQ ribs. I omitted rosemary since I do not care for the flavor.

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2013
I love this recipe because it is so fast to prepare. For the chili sauce I used my favorite Siracha. I also had to bake it much about 30 minutes longer than instructed. They came out slightly caramalized and the meat just pulled off the bone. It was delicious! This recipe is a keeper!

Macaron (French Macaroon)

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
I tried this recipe last week and without using a scale and although they didn't taste bad, they looked horrible! However, this week I was extremely meticulous about following every single direction and even some other tips from other people and they came out great! You do need to give in and buy a scale! In the long run you will have pretty macarons and you will save money from going to a baker just so you can enjoy some! The baking of a macaron is going to be different from everyone. I did half the batch on a silipat and half on parchment paper. The parchment paper batch came off easier and looked much nicer. The silipat batch had a problem sticking and a few cracked (those were probably done from me). Anyway, do what works best for you!

Spanish Flan

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
Great flan recipe! I have to admit, this is the 3rd time making it for me and I was able to get it into the oven after 10 minutes of preparation. I had the most difficult time with the sugar on my past two occasions...first time it had a burnt flavor which i did not like and the second time I couldnt get the sugar to melt into a light golden color, it would just end up too dark. However, I came across this other reviewer who had used the microwave for melting the sugar and it came out perfect! light golden yellow in 4 minutes! I just added a few tablespoons of water and a few drops of lemon juice and watched it in my microwave for about 3 or 4 minutes. As soon as it starts to turn golden color take it out of the microwave because it will continue to cook. I figured this isnt the traditional way of making caramel but it still tastes the same and soooo much easier!

My Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2006
i made this crab cake a couple weeks ago...the cakes came out well, but there are some changes that i made. I used only one sleeve of crackers and two cans of crab meat. The next time i use this recipe i will consider using LUMPS of fresh crab instead. but overall this recipe is good...

Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2005
I love this recipe. As suggested by another reviewer to use fuji apples and granny smith apples, the pie came out excellent. I made this pie 3 times already. The first two times i added about 2 tablespoons or of flour for the apple mix. I also layered in the sugar in between the apples; instead of just putting all the sugar mix on top of everything. One thing i wouldnt recommend doing (something i tried myself) is NOT melting the butter all the way like i did. I was in sort of a rush and decided to melt the butter for the crumble topping and it made the crumble too wet. So i added a little more flour to fix the the topping and when it came out, it wasnt as crumbly as it was before and kind of bland. So yeah, that was my mistake...The recipe is perfect as it is, just dont make the same mistake i did ;)

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2005
the muffins came out great! i followed everything on the recipe except i used i/2 cup of land o lakes margarine and i cut the salt down to about 1/8 tsp....they came out really good; the blueberries that i used were a little sour, but the muffins were still great. i had no problem with them sticking. i used paper cups and a non-stick pan and they fell right out. i also only baked them for about 25 minutes. this is a good blueberry muffin recipe!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2005
I followed every instruction for this recipe. I also took the advice of other reviewers and tempered the egg mixture so that the scalded milk will not cook the eggs. The pie was consistent and kept firm after i cooled it completely at room temperature...so i didnt have a problem with it building too much liquid. But the reason why i give this only one star is although i didnt make the pie taste "eggy" when i was taking the bites...the aroma smelled very much like boiled eggs and it just turned me off from the pie and didnt make it very appetizing to me and although my boyfriend usually makes everything i bake...he immediately said "no" when i asked him to take another bite ;P.

Picnic Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2005
overall this recipe is good, but i didnt really think the batter mix was thick enough on the chicken; the next time i make this recipe i will dip the chicken through the batter process twice to have a better coating. i also added about 2 tsp of paprika and cut the salt by half.
