Butternut Squash Soup
About this Cook
I wasn't born in the south, but I got here as quickly as I could. I've always loved to cook and I adore having a housefull of people to cook for.
My favorite things to cook
Baking pretty much anything. I am famous for my butternut squash soup, caramel apple salad, and jello pretzel salad.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Doesn't even involve me cooking! My mom and sister would make my great aunt's pineapple zuchini bread on Thanksgiving morning. I'd wake up to smell it baking. Yum. (this was especially comforting when I was in college- the smell of it WAS coming home!)
My cooking triumphs
The knowledge to pace myself. I make ahead what I can and freeze it to be warmed the day of a party or holiday so that I can spend my time with family and friends instead of in the kitchen.
My cooking tragedies
Not having a double oven! (yet!)

Chicken Tortilla Soup I
I have fallen in love with chicken tortilla soup lately and came here to find out how to make it myself. (At $5 a pop at the local restaurant, it was getting pricey!) My husband declared this is the best soup EVER. I love it because it is hearty with the beans and hominy- more of a meal soup than just a side dish. I quadrupled the recipe and have 3 ziplock bags for the freezer. Delish. Delish. Delish!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
I had never made pulled pork which was a big deal since I've lived in the south for over 10 years. My son LOVES root beer so I knew it would be a hit with him. And it was. This came out so tender and yummy. We let the leftovers sit in the juice which made it all the more tender. Yummy!

Bread Machine Garlic Bread
I made 2 loaves of this for a church function and it was PERFECT! My friend called me after to rave about how the garlic perfectly balanced the lasagna it was accompanying. I was nervous because the batter looked a bit wet when it was first kneading, but it came out just fine.
