Warm Apple Buttermilk Custard Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
I'm not sure how anyone gets past the overwhelming sweetness to award this recipe so highly. I love sweet, and this was just too much for me; even my kids who are sugar crazed couldn't finish a small piece. I tried to scrape the topping off just to salvage the pie, but even then it was still difficult to stomach. I think if I made it again, I would leave off the topping(or cut sugar amounts in half) and use 1/4 cup sugar on the apples and 1 cup sugar in the custard. I'm wanting to give the recipe 2 stars, but feel that the pie would be really good if the sugar wasn't such a problem.

Maryland Crab Cakes III

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2006
The overall rating of 4 and a half stars is exactly right. The crab cakes were good, but not great. One little change could bump this recipe up to 5 stars. I would make them again.

Irish Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: May 19, 2006
My family and I loved this dish. It brought me back to when I was little and my grandmother used to make it. I did add an extra can of broth and 2c milk. I used a whole chicken except for the wings. This is a very filling meal, perfect for a cold winter evening.

Savory Montreal Steak Rub

Reviewed: May 19, 2006
I thought this rub was very good, my wife and kids said it was too spicy for them.

Little Meat Loaves

Reviewed: May 19, 2006
The meat loaf itself was very good. The sauce however was way too sweet for my family, even the kids who are sugar crazed didn't like it. I will make it again, but find another sauce to top it.

Great recipe when cooking for a large family. I did make some minor changes, but overall a fairly simple to make tasty meal.

These were the most tender pork chops we have ever tasted. I never knew pork chops could taste so good!

Garlic Parmesan Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2006
I really liked the ease of using the frozen bread dough in this recipe. That was about all I liked. There was almost no taste, like eating a warm biscuit. I really want this recipe to work though. I will definitely try it again with some additional ingredients. I think it would help to use fresh grated parmesan and minced garlic.

Homemade Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
I've only had one other recipe that was better(unfortunatly i've lost that recipe). My kids loved it, they ate it for three days straight until it was gone.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
This was about the best topping for fish that I have ever had. My wife who hates fish had two pieces. My kids loved it too, they asked to have it again the next night.

Tuna Cheesies

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
My kids asked to have normal tuna fish after we made this. There were far too many clashing flavors, and it was very salty.

This was the best pecan pie I have ever tasted. Traditional pecan pie has nothing on this recipe.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
I really liked these cookies. They were a nice change from the Toll House cookies I normally bake. They were not as soft as I was hoping, but they tasted great.

Eggnog Cookies III

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
The cookies were okay. The nutmeg was a little overpowering. Most people who ate them said they tasted more like an apple pie cookie without the apple.

Mint Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
I'm a little confused by the results of this recipe. The fudge didn't taste, look, or feel like traditional fudge. The actual taste of the fudge was good, but not quite what I was expecting. Maybe I prepared it wrong?

Grandma's Polish Perogies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
This was my first attempt at making perogies. When they came out of the pot they looked a little slimy. My wife saw them and decided she didn't want to try perogies. I pan fried them in butter to make them more visually appealing, and she and the kids loved them.

Shearers' Mince and Potato Hot Pot

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
I liked this meal, but the wife and kids did not. The kids liked the potatoes but not the meat (the Worcestershire taste I think). My wife was unhappy that the potatoes were only partially cooked (even after an extended baking time). I think if I were to make it again I would bake it covered with foil for 45min then uncovered for the last 15min(this is how I cook my scalloped ham and potatoes and the potatoes are always tender). This could be a great meat and potatoes recipe with some adjustments.
