My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, but my favorite recipe of all time is Chicken Picata.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I used to bake bread all the time when I was younger. The only thing I remember about the bread was not liking the wheat berries she put in it. Aside from the wheat berries, I don't think there is any greater cooking tradition than including your children. I really appreciate my mom taking the time to include me.
My cooking triumphs
My Grandfather has always done the holiday cooking. This year he asked me to take over. I wouldn't really consider this a triumph, but more of an honor or right of passage.
My cooking tragedies
Not necessarily tragedies, but learning experiences. Like the time I was making a pumpkin cheese cake; it was midnight and I had been baking for 9 hours already. I decided it would be much easier if I mixed the pumpkin, cream cheese, and sugar all at once instead of creaming the cheese and sugar first. Yeah, so bad idea! The filling looked more like cottage cheese than sour cream. At that point it became an extra special Thanksgiving treat for the dog.

Warm Apple Buttermilk Custard Pie
I'm not sure how anyone gets past the overwhelming sweetness to award this recipe so highly. I love sweet, and this was just too much for me; even my kids who are sugar crazed couldn't finish a small piece. I tried to scrape the topping off just to salvage the pie, but even then it was still difficult to stomach. I think if I made it again, I would leave off the topping(or cut sugar amounts in half) and use 1/4 cup sugar on the apples and 1 cup sugar in the custard. I'm wanting to give the recipe 2 stars, but feel that the pie would be really good if the sugar wasn't such a problem.

Maryland Crab Cakes III
The overall rating of 4 and a half stars is exactly right. The crab cakes were good, but not great. One little change could bump this recipe up to 5 stars. I would make them again.

Irish Chicken and Dumplings
My family and I loved this dish. It brought me back to when I was little and my grandmother used to make it. I did add an extra can of broth and 2c milk. I used a whole chicken except for the wings. This is a very filling meal, perfect for a cold winter evening.
