Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2013
this is easy and really good! in case it helps - for step 3 (when you're microwaving and mixing), make sure after the last 30 seconds in microwave that you REALLY mix. it may seem like the butter and sugar don't want to mix up, but they will, just make sure to keep at it til you get an even, smooth consistency. Also - when putting foil on your cookie tray, try to create 'walls' at the sides... my brittle bubbled over and made a bit of a mess of the oven. I used salted soda crackers and will only make it this way - a hint of salt with all that sugar and chocolate tastes fantastic!

Sour Cream Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2013
this recipe is moist and delicious and easy to make. i made it exactly to the recipe, turned out great. i had to put it back in the oven after an hour and fifteen minutes, as it wasn't quite done. and i forgot to rotate it halfway through baking time. the only problem i had was the bottom crust got a little burnt, i think maybe because the rack was too low in the oven. will try it one rack up next time. i'll make this again for sure.

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2013
delicious and very quick and easy. i made it with (skin-on) drumsticks that'd been frozen that i defrosted that am i used 1/2 c regular honey with 1/4c french's (yellow) and 1/4c grainy dijon mustard. following other suggestions, used just a dash of parika - smoked paprika as that's what i had on hand. tented with foil to bake for first 30 mins, removed foil when i turned the drumsticks over, then removed foil cover to bake for final 15 mins. also, marinated the drummies in the honey/mustard in a ziploc bag (refrigerated) for about 2 hours before baking. it's an easy dish, the house smalls great when it bakes up served with rice and fresh salad, yummy, simple, and healthy

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2013
honestly so so good. i've never used frozen pie shells before - it worked out great! i followed all these suggestions, and thanks everyone for the tips: added extra seasoning (i used 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp old bay, and a little more salt than it asked - i had celery salt but didn't use it). i used 2 cups chicken broth and used 1 cup milk for the sauce, i cooked the veggies (i used 16 0z frozen) in chicken stock - and mixed the veg with the sauce before adding to pie shell. i also did the egg white wash and baked the bottom shell 6 mins before adding filling, then did egg white wash on the top shell and threw it in the oven. it sounds like a lot of work but it's not really, and i feel like it'll be quicker and easier once you've made it a few times. try it, you won't be disappointed!

Pad Thai

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2012
very good, easy recipe. also recommend tripling the sauce, and you can experiment with peanut butter, soy sauce, ketchup, chili sauce - just taste as you go. i followed the advice to boil the rice noodles (i used rice vermicelli) for one minute then let sit off the heat for 5 min - much faster prep! i'll make this again, but will add vegetables next time (maybe carrot, snow peas, regular peas?), as it does look a little plain - also recommend LOTS of green onion for garnish - adds flavour and looks super appetizing. i made it with just shrimp

Flourless Chocolate Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
delicious. My friend has celiac so i tried these. Followed reciped exactly using almond flour and seni-sweet chips. Easy to make, baking time is longer than what the reciped says but be careful, i think i overdid mine just a bit. Recommend if you need to bake longer doing it in ten minute incriments twice then reduce to five mins. I'll make these again! Melted the chocolate in a bowl in hot water in my sink... easy

Clam Sauce with Linguine

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
very nice flavour - pretty easy assembly as well one thing - satueeing the mushrooms for so long soaked up much of the butter and clam juice (and their flavours).... next time i'll sautee the mushrooms separately and add them at the end so they don't suck up all the juice - also used much more garlic than it called for served with garlic bread and spinach salad very good!! lots of leftovers

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
very good. not exactly quick preparation, but worth it. no need to wait for the stock to be ready to start broiling the bread... you can do both simultaneously to save time. i broiled an extra piece of bread and cut it up as croutons for the salad i served along with it. i'll make this again... you need a big pot! mine wasn't big enough so i had to halve the recipe... no biggie though :)

No Bake Rum Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
these are great. i added a leetle more rum than it called for. wet your hands slightly before rolling them into balls - WAY easier and it doesn't stick as much - otherwise you have to keep rinsing your hands after each 3rd or 4th roll.

this is a really good, simple banana bread recipe - you'll usually have all the ingredients on hand (as long as you have bananas!)

Fruit Dip II

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
i can't believe how good this is for how simple it is to prepare. it honestly is good enough to eat plain, and is also delish over fruit. the recipe makes quite a bit - half it if you're not serving with tons of fruit - or keep half for later

Peanut Butter Haystacks

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
absolutely delicious. amazing texture and taste. easy to make, don't need to modify the recipe at all. you can do it all in one big microwavible bowl to save clean up. when it's all mixed, keep mixing it once in a while - the peanuts are heavier and they sink to the bottom

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
delicious i've made this several times. so easy, turns out moist, flavourful, just great. don't ruin all your time (it's not a lot of work) and douse it in a 'so-so' bbq sauce... use something you really love, or try making one from scratch. great recipe

Crab Stuffed Haddock

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
this is delicious. i followed the recipe pretty closely, there's a lot to the stuffing, but it's good. i topped it over the fish to cook instead of stuffing it.. turned out great chopped up the fish and stuffing the next day for an omelette.. it was amazing!

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
easy to make. i used a package of frozen berries plus a pint of fresh blueberries. i only put 2 tbsp sugar on the fruit (instead of 3), and i added some lemon juice for the crisp mixture, i used 1 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature, which made it easy to mix together). i recommend adding a bit of salt to the mixture (i.e. 1 or 1 1/2 tsp salt) OR, preferably, use salted butter for the crumb mixture. enjoy!

Apple Maple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: May 17, 2008
this turned out great! i decided to leave the skins on.... i like the taste/texture of baked apples w/ skin, so it worked for me... if you like it too, i'd recommend it, soooo much faster, plus a little healthier too. i also recommend adding a bit of lemon juice... keeps the apples from browning as you slice them, and contrasts nicely with the maple syrup i only had 1/3 cup real maple syrup, for the other 1/3 i used 'fake' stuff... it was fine. definitely include the pinch of salt too... it needs it
