Non-Edible Cinnamon Dough

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
I've made this "playdough" for years. Adding some other spices to it lends for some great smelling ornaments. Cloves and allspices are great. You can even use whole cloves to decorate your creations. This year we are planning on making them again. I might add some essential oil to the mixture as well.

Swedish Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2007
Our entire family loved this. I followed it exactly as written for all the measurements (I used ground turkey instead of beef) and then strained the sauce to get out the bits and pieces. After returning the sauce to the pan I felt it needed a little bit more flavor so I added two dashes of allspice and 2 dashes of nutmeg. I used whole wheat egg noodles and added a bit of butter to the lemon juice used to coat the noodles. Absolutely PERFECT! I will most definitely be making this again.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2007
I LOVE brussell sprouts. this is a wonderful way to make them. But, if you are short on time use all the same ingredients and add sliced shallots. Soften the shallots in oil in skillet on stove top over med. flame. Add in halved brussell sprouts and cover for a few minutes. Add in about 1/4 cup water then cover again for about 2-3 minutes. Remove lid to let any excess moisture evaporate. PERFECT for when you are in a rush.

Chicken Korma II

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2007
What a great recipe! It was a huge hit in my house last night. I used coconut milk instead of heavy cream (didn't have any) and 2 heaping tbsp. of tomato paste instead of the tomato sauce. I also used powdered ginger since I didn't have fresh on hand. I didn't use the cornstarch at all. I eyeballed all the other ingredients for measurements and ended up with a wonderfully thick creamy dish. Served with any style of Indian rice this is a perfect dish.

Adobo Chicken with Ginger

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
Definitely a dish to make again and again. I use chicken breasts on the bone cut in half instead of dark meat. You can't get easier than throwing everything in pot and turning the flame on.

Chicken Biryani, Hyderabadi Style

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
Giving it rating so I can add a comment. With yogurt if you use full fat yogurt it usually wont look curdled or chunky. The low fat or fat free ones will. It doesn't change the flavor though.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
I make this dish ALL the time along with a variety of other Indian dishes. I agree with another reviewer, there is WAAAY too much salt in this recipe. Perhaps it was a typo in the recipe? Either way, just cut the salt down to a tsp. or so and add more if you prefer saltier. I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because of the salt.

Favorite Corn Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2007
This is a good recipe. I heeded the advice of one reviewer and used fat free plain yogurt instead of milk to cut some of the dryness. I used 1/3 C. of a half and half mixture of splenda and sugar as well. I also added in 3/4 can of corn kernals. I only gave it an average rating as I made changes to the original recipe.

Kicky Steak Strips with Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2007
Honestly, I didn't think this recipe was all that thrilling. It needs a little something else - not quite sure what yet. But its a decent start to a recipe that could be so much better. I would definitely recommend stir frying some fresh vegetables to mix in with the meat as well as a few more herbs.

Guacamole

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
Excellent recipe. I did feel however that this recipe is over salted. I only added 1/2 tsp. of salt and felt that it was still a touch too much. I will definitely make this again@

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2006
This is a great starter recipe. I substituted chicken broth once and vegetable broth the other time. I felt there weren't enough spices added so I greatly increased the current measurements plus added some garam masala. When done cooking I pureed half of the soup in a blender then added back into pot. WONDERUL! Served with some fresh homemade bread this is perfect for a cold day.

All Day Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2005
I followed the suggestion of using more pasta and not cooking it first. I omitted the evaporated milk and only used one egg. I felt there was WAY too much cheese and the salt wasn't neccesary.I only cooked it for 4 hours on low. I think this recipe is a good start but needs a bit of refinement. For now I will stick to my own recipe.
