I am a Seattle native, but have lived abroad for most of my post-university life.
My favorite things to cook
I like to try my hand at inventing my own recipes (my husband calls them my experiments). On the weekends I like to take extra time to make time- consuming dishes, preparing everything from scratch and going for an extra special presentation on the plate.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas dinner at our house was always lasagne made with a ricotta and parsley filling and Mom's home-made pasta sauce. We always have a big green salad and various other side dishes. Another tradition was veggie pizza and vegetable soup every Friday.
My cooking triumphs
I have invented my own veggie version of 'mock crabcakes' using artichoke hearts and ground cashews. They are very tasty and oddly even smell like shell fish when they are pan-fried.
My cooking tragedies
I once made a dinner for my whole extended family. Everything was too salty. I kept apologizing throughout the meal, and my brother teased me by continually asking me to pass the salt.
