Arabic Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2006
i halved the recipe. the first time i tried, was too lazy to get my shortening i just used 1 cup of soft margarine in place of 1/2 cup each for butter and shortening. Disastrous. the cookies were too soft that looked like mini round omellettes. Then, curious, tried the next day properly using shortening. was great. I cut the sugar (my dad's diabetics) from 1 cup per recipe to only 2/3 cup for half of recipe. i also added about half cup of walnut (to slow the release of sugar.. i read somewhere) it turned out really great, and i think was pretty safe for diabetics. Very tasty.

Applesauce Cake IV

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2006
i had many leftover apples, so i made an applesauce(found the recipe in this site also). i was too lazy to chop the raisins or mix it properly, so i just dumped all ingredients and adding semi-ground walnuts (about 100 gr) in a bowl, combine it by hand, and put it in a loaf pan. The cake didn't rise well (well, had been expected because i didn't mix it properly) but it tasted soooo good that i cancelled taking it to office and eaten it myself within 3 days. super yum.

No Sugar Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2006
I love this because it's sugarless. my father is a diabetic, so i'm trying to be careful in consuming sugar. i added the cinnamon, and threw in a cup of raisins, and believe it or not, i feel i have a ton of energy breakfasting with this than with regular bread. Thanks for the great recipe.

Scottish Oat Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2006
I use raisins instead of currants (no currants in sight anywhere here in Jakarta). First time i made it i halved the recipe, and after the dough felt nice, i realise i haven't put the egg in. so, i divided the dough into 6, and rolled them in the beaten egg, then flatten it (too lazy to flatten it using rolling pin), then bake it. it tastes YUMMY. I usually make the grandma johnson's scones, but this one is healthier and i feel much better eating this than the grany johnson's. Seriously, this easily beats oatmeal scones sold at starbucs here hands down.

Wohoww this beats scones i used to have at starbucks hands down!. i love making this because it's so quick. I used light sour cream and cut a bit of sugar by 2 tbl spoon. I threw in a 100 gr (half of cup) of walnut and 100 gr of raisins, and it's so yum yum!!

Creamy Baked Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2005
tried five times so far this recipe, loved it all the time. the last i made alteration, instead of full-fat cream cheese, i used light cream cheese. Even with halved fat, it still turned beautifully!. I put halved strawberry and mandarin oranges(both dried first on tissue paper to remove excess liquid), after the bake was over, then glaced it with colorless jelly (instead of gelatin, i used jelly made from seaweed. i package/envelope with a cup of water, boiled). It looked (and tasted) like cheesecake i bought at hotels only this time the cost is a fift :).

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2005
i first tried this cake two days ago as i wanted to give it as a gift to my friend for an Islamic holiday, the Eid al-Fitr. Now i had never made flour-based cakes before, always had left it to mom to do the job, so i was not sure that i could make even a decent cake. I followed the recipe to the letter, and.. VOILA, it was so great that my friend said for next year's Eid she would order the cake from me instead from stores! and, since making this cake twice in as many days (because my mom said its sooo good so let's make it for ourselves) and always turned out great, my mom became unconfident with her cake-making skill. now am the designated cake maker in the family. Thanks much Marsha for the great recipe.
