Chicken because of its versatility; seafood; fatty, cheese-filled Italian dishes; homemade mac and cheese; cookies
My favorite family cooking traditions
1 word: PORK. Every Christmas, my grandmother makes her famous lasagna, meatballs, sausage and pork. I've never seen a huge, loud Italian family be so very quite at the dinner table...except when we're fighting over the last piece of pork.

Thanksgiving Day, cutting into the pumpkin pie to find the crust on the bottom totally raw when it had not been a few hours earlier! Can a pie crust just uncook itself?
