I have a BFA from MassArt majoring in Studio for interrelated media( collaberating art with media performance). While in school I acquired skills in veterinary technology through my job. I currently work part time in the same field but less of it so I can get back to creative arts and painting as well as cooking whick makes me very happy.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook dimsum, vietnamese, and Laotian cuisine. I like to bake cookies, cakes, and asian desserts. I like to cook Italian once in awhile.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any, since my mom only cooks on holidays. I guess if I were to pick which holiday, I would say Thanksgiving since now we decided to rotate who's going to cook. My mom still cooks the best stuffing I've ever had, and the only homemade gravy I've ever had thats made with turkey juices.
My cooking triumphs
Vietnamese rice cake: "banh tet"
It requires skills to roll a cylinder made of pork (which is in the center), yellow mung bean (which is surrounding the pork), and sticky rice(which is wrapped around the beans). This is all wrapped tightly in banana leaves with string and boiled for 6 hours. There is a long prep time to soaking rice for 24hrs before hand.
My cooking tragedies
Dimsum rice sheet rolls stuffed with shrimp. It took me a long time to perfect steaming strategies for the sheets made of rice batter. In the end I figured out how to eliminate all the flaws in technique.
