Pizza On The Grill I

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
At first I thought Gee this dough is REALLY hard to work with and way to dry and stiff so I made a batch of Jay's pizza crust from here just to be on the safe side. Turns out I didnt use Jay's after all but I did add just a tad more water and olive oil to make it a little more pliable. That being said this has to be the best pizza recipe we're tried yet. Rue the day it rains when we're craving grilled pizza. I made a philly steak and cheese with caramelized onions and steak ums. The crust was thick and still slightly crispy and has a essence of a brick oven pizza. The kids went nuts for it to, we'll probably be making this one all summer!

Cooked Eggnog

Reviewed: May 13, 2009
This is an excellent recipe. I NEVER drink eggnog because the thought of raw egg is so disgusting. This is terrific, I threw in a little cinnamon and perfect-o no more disgusting store bought for my family!

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: May 13, 2009
WOW this recipe tops any pork loin recipe I've tried or had. I didn't change a thing and the meat was tender fall apart. This would be perfect as pulled pork barbecue but still shines all by its self. I only used a mid sized sweet onion, next time I'll use an extra large or 2 mediums. My kids couldn't get enough. I served with my homemade mac and cheese and peas.

Lasagna Roll Ups

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
I exchanged the tofu for italian ground turkey because we are so not tofu fans. After tasting the filling I threw in a little garlic and some minced onion. Both my boys had 2 helpings and begged me to make it again tomorrow night.

Rolled Fondant

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
I had trouble rolling this to cover a 12 inch round by 4 inch high cake. So I scratched that idea and used this to make all the decorations. The fondant is easy to work with but I would suggest using a smaller cake or make sure you have absoutley zero humidity when you attempt. I flavored with lemon and raspberry extract so it would taste like skittles.

Buttery Lemon Spinach

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Excellent and very easy. I would have never microwaved spinach before now. It came out pleasantly "par" wilted. I will cut the lemon in half next time as it was a little to tart for 2 out of 4. Perfect recipe if you have conflicting spinach consistency views. I like fresh and raw my husband likes cooked down and sauteed. It was a cross between both and a great middle ground.

Roast Leg of Lamb with Rosemary

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
This got rave reviews from my children. It smelled wonderful but I do not eat lamb so I must depend on the rest of my family for a review. I had to cook my lamb a good 40 minutes longer to make it medium well, but I did use a bone in leg of lamb. I added about a 1 1/2 of water under the rack as the marinate and juices will soon char and burn. I also covered my lamb with a tinfoil tent to prevent any burning. Served with Au jus, wild rice and buttery lemon spinach from this site. Great Easter Meal.

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
Nice variation from my usual deviled eggs. My husband almost spit it out thinking the crunchy bacon was egg shell so make sure you tell people ahead of time.

Stuffed Peppers with Turkey and Vegetables

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
This was a great change from normal stuffed peppers & so much healthier. The filling makes a lot of extra but I guess its depends on the size of your peppers. I used 5 normal sized green peppers & still had enough left to make 2 more. I topped with just a little bit of fresh grated parm before eating and it was divine. I also used italian flavored ground turkey for a little extra flavor. Terrific filling a healthy meal.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
These certainly live up to their name. They are just the kind I would expect to get a a bakery. I doubled the recipe and made as stated with zero problems. I read the reviews, never ever under any circumstances leave the dough out over night, raw egg & butter is just a breeding play ground for bacteria. If your cookies falls flat then soften your butter instead of melting it. I had no trouble with mine as I made them using a 1/4 cup cookie size as instructed. They are VERY sweet, I used 1/2 dark chocolate and 1/2 semi sweet (just because its what I had on hand) had I used milk chocolate they would have been to sweet all around but they turned out perfectly. If you do use milk chocolate I recommend you cut the white sugar by 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup if you double it. Perfect amount of chocolate chip for me though my husband disagreed & would have used less, just eyeball it and use what works for you. Keep covered in an airtight container with a heel of bread & they will not harden.

French's® Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2009
I love making this. I'm not a huge green bean fan, at least not frozen they always seem a little tough or rubbery on the outside after cooking so I use canned french cut green beans, my kids will only eat it this way and so will I. This is a staple at our holiday table.

Old Bay® Lady Liberty Seafood Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
This was a great recipe. Its was just okay the first day and terrific the second once the flavors had a chance to meld. I have to agree with another reviewer that it would be much better without the onion. it was a bit over powering. Next time I will leave that out and maybe just thrown in some (like a tbs) of the minced dried onions.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
These were fantastic. I never would have put fresh parsley in a burger before this but wow it gave it such wonderful flavor. I'm sure some of the bad reviews were from those who used dried in place of fresh. My suggestion is don't it really gives it a taste all of its own. I used red onion because I had a half of a red from another recipe I was making that I need to use. I originally intended to grill these but oops out of gas, but they work out great on the stove.

Vidalia Onion Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
Excellent. Sort of like a quiche. I put lattice work over the top to fool my kids into thinking we were having "pie" for dinner on april fools day. This would be better as a brunch meal or add maybe some chopped ham to make it a main dinner dish. Dosent work really well as a side.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
Something seemed off with the sauce to me and even with franks red hot which is known for more flavor then heat it was still to spicy for 1 of my kids. I would halve the hot sauce. It had a sort of chemically smell. I tasted some with the chicken then doctored it up with some rice wine vinegar. I doubled the sauce and regretted it, its not the kind you can use in your rice. A light amount made the chicken okay. My oldest asked for seconds but with such mixed reviews I dont think I will be making it again.

Finally I have found a way to get my kids to eat brussel sprouts. I used frozen brussel sprouts that I partially thawed and they worked out great. The whole family loved them.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2009
This is the first recipe from taste of home that we have actually enjoyed. The batter was thick enough to hold the chocolate chips so they didn't sink to one side. I added a tsp of vanilla and that was my only change. The servings were accurate as well. This made 2 thick pancakes per person.
