Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
Very good. I scaled back the butter by half and doubled the honey and potatoes. Next time I will probably just omit the butter altogether as it really didn't seem to need it.

Fish Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
I have to give this a 5 star as my youngest son raved about this. I've been trying to find a dish to make him like fish. He said to the whole table "wow fish is really yummy" and proceeded to ask for more. I did do a half crab and half salad shrimp combo for the stuffing to tempt him. It was a little to buttery for my taste so next time I might cut that back or find something less heavy to keep it moist like veggie broth. I used green onion instead of regular as i couldn't see cutting into a whole onion to only use that much.

Hummingbird Cake III

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
I'm just rating the cake portion of this recipe. Fantastic, I didn't change a thing. It was much more dense than I expected sort of like banana bread. The pineapple in it was terrific.

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
I see the problem some people had. I softened my cream cheese in the microwave and as a result I couldn't get my cream to whip up (and I've made fresh whipped cream more time than I could count), it was runny and kinda clotted so I tossed it and started over. ring the cream cheese to room temp on the counter and whip it in after you whipped your cream. I still wouldn't leave it out over night because its dairy and just unsafe. I made this to go with hummingbird cake off of this site. It didn't work for piping... at all as you will be able to see from the pics so learn from me and just don't bother to try.

Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
I altered the directions for ease. I thickened the soup with corn starch before drizzling the egg. My husband added a little soy sauce to his bowl and said it was perfect. The rest of us ate it and loved it as it. Perfect soup for the sick ones last night.

Aunt Jewel's Chicken Dressing Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Easy Healthy and Delish! I cooked the browned the chicken with some garlic instead of boiled and used regular (not stove top) stuffing mix which i added onions to. Next time I will use low sodium broth since it seemed a little salty with the soups.

Pot Stickers Traditional

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
The filling was yummy even if kind of hard to work with being that it was crumbled. The sauce left alot to be desired and we searched for different dipping sauce recipes. It needed sugar.

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
The filling was outstanding. I used half the crab meat and half the water chestnuts. I also threw in some powdered sugar since our fav place while we lived in SC served theres a little sweeter. MUCH better than anything we can find up here in New England.

Wonton Wrappers

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Okay I have to admit I just stopped after a while. I was rolling these out by hand and the work it takes is incredible. I will only ever attempt this again with a pasta maker. The ones I made were great and the real deal but it took A LOT of time to roll out! I ended up sending my husband to the store to buy them. At just two bucks for 36 wrappers it wasnt worth my time to make by hand.

Cheese and Broccoli Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
Excellent. I used a milk and heavy cream combo since I had some on hand I wanted to use up. It had a little much cheese for me but my daughter loved it. I don't know why I followed the directions to add the roux to the broth, it came out clumpy, of course. Next time I will make it separate and slowly add the broth broccoli mixture.

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
I made some small changes. I roasted the garlic in my toaster oven for the mayo. I couldn't grill since its winter so I cooked all the veggies on the stove in garlic flavored EVOO and threw in some premade Tyson grilled chicken and used jarred roasted sweet red peppers. I also threw the feta into the pan so it would get a little melty. And I put it all into a Spinach wrap with Alfalfa Sprouts. It was super yummy I will make this often with many variations. It would be great with quartered cherry tomatoes and my husband wants to try it with cucumbers as well.

Chinese Almond Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
I don't know what ever possessed to try this recipe. Yes its a easier version of an almond cookie but you loose a lot when you edit for ease and it lacks in flavor an consistency. I upped the almond extract to 1 tbs and added chopped almonds. they were puffy and not at all like the real thing. I think I'll opt for the recipe that requires chilling overnight or just used the cookie part from the raspberry almond shortbreads.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
My first attempt at French onion soup was a hit! I forgot to pick up the fresh herbs so I cut the top off of a tea bag emptied it and filled with the right amount of dried retied it with its own string and simmered it with the broth. My husband said Excellent which is a feat as it his favorite and he get it at every place that has it on the menu!!! as I scaled it to 2 servings since its not really a kid friendly soup. I may try it with sherry next time as some have suggested. Its really rich and filling! I topped with provolone slices, a small amount of grated asiago and shredded swiss since I was running low on just swiss. I WILL make again!

Perfect Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
Made this for lunch today and the whole family loved it. I did omit the chile paste since I'm cooking for children but I did add just a small smattering of crushed red pepper. It was VERY sweet which is probably why both my boys gave it such high reviews but it was an over kill of sugar for a grown up. Next time I will reduce the sugar considerably and up the vinegar. I also doubled the recipe and I'm glad I did 2 pounds of chicken was almost completely eaten between the 5 of us.

Banana Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
I would rate this 4 1/2 stars. 3 out of 5 really like it and 2 just dont have a taste for smoothies. I omitted the banana extract, I didnt have it and didnt really care to buy it just for this specific use. It didnt really need it anyways. I served this with banana nut bread off of this site for a nice school day breakfast. I am now the blend master queen according to the kids.
