I am a dancer who is going back to school a second time for Early Childhood Education. I live with my husband and 2 kitties and love to try out new recipes on friends and family!
My favorite things to cook
I love love love to cook lasagna roll-ups. I originally found 2 recipies on allrecipes and tweaked it a bit to make it my own and now it is by far my favorite recipe. I also love to bake cakes, though I'm only successful about half of the time!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chili! My mom has a recipe from a cook book called Colordado Cache that has wowed people for years. It has a few different kinds of meat, a wide variety of vegetables and beans, and sour cream cooked into it to make it a very creamy and hearty chili. It's amazing!
My cooking triumphs
I made some mini almond ginger cheesecakes and a lemon berry cake, both from Martha Stewart recipes which are normally a bit difficult for me, but they both came out spectacularly! I prepared them for Mother's Day and then the second for Father's Day and I really wow-ed my family!
My cooking tragedies
There is no way to list them all! My most recent was attempting to make a whipped vanilla frosting. It may have gone well (and by well I mean somewhat edible) except for the intense humidity of the scattered thunderstorm day and the 85 degree weather in my un-air conditioned kitchen combined with me ignorance that those factors have huge effects on whipped frosting! After about 5 minutes of whipping the soupy, egg white goo I began adding powdered sugar in hopes of thickening it up. Needless to say the whole event was a bust. I (stuipidly) still glazed it over my delicious blueberry vanilla cake but we ate around the frosted edges and it made it's way to the garbage pretty quickly. I'll try again one day, possibly in the dead of winter, on a dry dry day when I've learned a bit more about creating your own whipped frosting.
