I love, love, love to bake and cook! It's just great when my family and friends rave over what I've made for them. Cooking for me is relaxing and fun.
My favorite things to cook
Baking -there's nothing better than the smell of baking bread or cookies or cake or, well you get the idea! Also Mexican food, desserts, fresh salsa.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooking traditions are definitely about comfort foods: breads, desserts, casseroles. Also, we love a LOT of flavor - salt, spices, sauces, heat in our salsas and Mexican food.
My cooking triumphs
A cake that looks just like a plate of spaghetti + meatballs! I brought it into work for a birthday party once, and people still talked about it years later. I am also getting better and better at improvising for missing ingredients and pumping up the flavor of dishes beyond what the recipe calls for.
My cooking tragedies
The night I tried to toast shredded coconut in the oven (Martha Stewart said it was easy!) Within 3 minutes it had all charred and our whole apartment was filled with thick black smoke. My husband and I still laugh about that one.

Chocolate Brittle Surprise
I have used this recipe multiple times using graham crackers instead of soda crackers. Everyone loves it! It is great to make and give as a gift. Like other reviewers, I also cut the oven time down - to about 10-12 min. Flavored or regular grahams work well, and I have also experimented with swirling white-chocolate chips on top of the melted semi-sweet. It's a great recipe!

Caramel Bars
These bars are incredible!! Definitely worth unwrapping all those caramels :) I added a little cinnamon to the oatmeal mixture, which gave it a nice flavor. This recipe is a keeper for sure!

Dill Pickle Bread
This bread didn't rise for me, and the bread ended up being heavy. I had added sugar to help the yeast along, but this didn't seem to work. I thought maybe it would be better to add chopped pickles and dill pickle juice to my regular white bread recipe for bread machines.
