Bread Pudding with Praline Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2014
Fabulous bread pudding. Second time I made it, I cut the sugar back to 2 cups and it was extremely sweet. I may try it once again and will cut the sugar to 1 1/2 cups. The praline sauce never thickened for me and in light of the 2 sticks of butter and all that heavy cream, I think next time I might skip the sauce and just blob the top with some whipped cream. I would like to add that I'm no stranger to sugar. It is my downfall in life so for a sugar-holic to say something is too sweet, it certainly must be so, but still, it is very delicious! Thanks for sharing.

Slow Cooker Pork Cacciatore

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2013
I really enjoyed this recipe with one exception. Tomato sauce is nothing more than tomatoes, fresh or canned, and seasonings and maybe onion if you like it. I don't understand why everyone feels it is necessary to add a "jar of sauce" to this recipe when you are already making your own sauce with the tomatoes and seasonings. What happens is that cooking the "jar of sauce" for another 7 hours makes a really acidic and STRONG sauce. Next time I make it, I will simply add a 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes instead of that costly "jar of sauce" and I'm sure I will end up with a very nice tasting tomato sauce. I am not a crockpot fan, but I would definitely make this again. I really enjoyed it (minus the extra acid in the way too cooked jar of sauce). Thanks for submitting!

Easy Slow Cooker Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2013
The meatballs were good, but too much breadcrumbs. I don't understand why you use a "jar of sauce" when tomato sauce is nothing more than tomatoes and seasonings to begin with. Why add a jar of already made sauce when you are actually making your own with the tomatoes and puree and seasonings. What happens is that the "jar of sauce" cooked another 8 hours becomes very very strong and acidic. I think if you skip the jar sauce, this would be a great crockpot meal. I never change a recipe when I first try it so as to give an honest review, but next time I make this, I will omit the jar sauce and maybe add another can of crushed tomatoes and a little garlic and, at the end, stirring in fresh basil just before serving and that will make this a perfect tomato sauce.

Famous Pork Chops

This didn't work for me at all. Nothing wrong with my oven, so I can't blame it on that. Just didn't get crispy the way I would have liked them. I agree with another reviewer that they were a bit soggy and not what I expected.

Very good, but way too much Orzo for the amount of Kale in the recipe.

Restaurant-Style Potato Salad

Amazing is all I can say. My new favorite and yes, I used the tiny bits of onion, celery and carrots the recipe called for and it was perfect. I thought they would be lost, but they weren't. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Pesto Cheesy Chicken Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2010
This was fabulous. If possible, make home-made basil pesto rather than the store stuff. Brushed the outside of the rolls with beaten egg and sprinkled bread crumbs on top. Thanks for sharing this wonderful dish.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2010
I don't know why I tried this recipe because as I was making it, I couldn't understand why all the different types of tomato products and why all the different herb products. Dried Italian herbs (called for 1 tsp.) has oregano, basil and marjoram in it already so why add more. No one in my family was crazy about this sauce. We at it just to get rid of it and I did follow the recipe as written.

Country Sausage Gravy

This was just okay and nothing I would make again. With all the "extras" added, I feel to took away from the old fashioned country sausage gravy taste. I prefer basic sausage gravy.

Pure comfort food. Just loved it. Used leftover pork roast and followed the recipe to the T. So much nicer than making yet another pulled pork with the leftovers. The gravy is unbelievable. Thanks so much Sudie.

Cavatini II

If you love baked ziti, you will love this glorified version. You don't have to buy a premade tomatoe sauce. Since you cook the sauce with all of the vegetable/meat additions for an hour, you are basically "making" your own sauce, so why add more jarred sauce. Just throw in a 32 oz. can crushed tomatoes and 2 (yes 2) cans of paste and one paste can full of water and some seasonings of your choice and you will be very satisfied with the outcome. Makes a delicious tomato/vegetable sauce. I loved using the 3 different types of macaroni. You just have to add them to the boiling water at different times because some take longer to cook. Thanks for a nice take on baked ziti!

Marian's Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
I have mixed feelings about this recipe. It WAS sweet and not exactly super creamy. I used ritz crackers crushed up on top and can't imagine what dry bland bread crumbs would taste like on this. Corn is generally sweet so you really don't need all that sugar. This is not your gourmet creamed corn recipe, but okay for a regular dinner and something different.
