About this Cook
I am a mother of four (2 of each kind) and a photographer. I currently reside in Tacoma, WA but have lived in Phoenix, AZ and Reno, NV. My hometown is Fresno, CA. Besides learning that I am turning into a good cook I am refining my artistic skills. I get rave reviews on my photography, art and, now, my cooking. Allrecipes is my go-to site for all things recipe. In fact I should give credit to allrecipes for my burgeoning interest in cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Butter cake from scratch. Corn and carrot chili. My grandmothers super secret cherry cheese pie. Dijon mustard chicken. Homemade enchilada sauce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making my family's entire Thanksgiving dinner along side my husband. Having something non-traditional for Christmas dinner (bbq meatball subs, enchiladas)
My cooking triumphs
Anything that my seven year old will eat feels like a gigantic victory.
My cooking tragedies
A three ingredient recipe for peanut butter cookies. If it sounds too good to be true...

Candied Yams
This is a fantastic basic recipe. Wonderful to build upon based on individual tastes. I added a tsp of vanilla, a sprinkle of salt and a decent dusting of cinnamon to the sweet potatoes, butter and brown sugar. I combined them all together in a bowl and then scooped it into a glass Pyrex dish. Definitely add the marshmallows. It adds a great sweet crunch when they're toasted. Spray the foil with Pam before you cover it. That way the marshmallows don't pull off when you remove the foil. Also spray the Pyrex dish with Pam. It helps with cleanup. I quadrupled the recipe so I could add the leftovers to a pie crust and bake into a sweet potato pie.
