Delicious. I was in a kitchen with limited ingredients, so I used vanilla greek yogurt with a touch of milk instead of buttermilk. I also used approximately half the recommended sugar because I was wasn't in the mood for a sugar bomb. I also sifted in (these are all approximate) 1/2 teaspoon ginger, 1/4 t cloves, some fresh grindings of nutmeg, and 3/4 t cinnamon. Also some vanilla in the wet mix.
The crust is amazing. So chewy crispy, straight out of the oven. We ate half of this loaf standing in the kitchen, armed with a butter knife and our bare hands. Chicken soup bubbling away on the stove; so naughty! But as my grandfather would say - 'Eat dessert first! They might drop the bomb.'
