Albondigas Soup I (with garnish)
About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking bread and cooking italian food in particular. I love tomatoes. Poaching. Poaching in tomato juice spiked with basil. Potato soup of all kinds. Ooh albondigas soup. Apple pie by Grandma Ople. Rhubarb pie with no strawberries. Tortilla soup, black bean soup. I am in search of a perfect chewy rice pudding.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom definitely raised me on healthy, basic food. She has always cooked square basic vegetable heavy meals. Dessert was not taken for granted. I like to grow the veggies I eat or buy from a grower I trust whenever possible. Dessert is still not taken for granted but is instead subject to my whim. Which is worse? Time will tell.
My cooking triumphs
Yay food!
My cooking tragedies
I made this squash soup once that was way worse than the sum total of everything gross I have ever made in the past. Sickening. My dog did enjoy it, but then pretty much the only thing he won't eat is celery.

Best Ever Banana Bread
Delicious. I was in a kitchen with limited ingredients, so I used vanilla greek yogurt with a touch of milk instead of buttermilk. I also used approximately half the recommended sugar because I was wasn't in the mood for a sugar bomb. I also sifted in (these are all approximate) 1/2 teaspoon ginger, 1/4 t cloves, some fresh grindings of nutmeg, and 3/4 t cinnamon. Also some vanilla in the wet mix. The crust is amazing. So chewy crispy, straight out of the oven. We ate half of this loaf standing in the kitchen, armed with a butter knife and our bare hands. Chicken soup bubbling away on the stove; so naughty! But as my grandfather would say - 'Eat dessert first! They might drop the bomb.'

This is just right. I am no longer a slave to their sauce!
