Gurkensalat (German Cucumber Salad)

Reviewed: May 21, 2012
I am German, and this tastes very authentic. Thank you! Make sure to slice the cucumbers very thinly, for example, with a grater. If you want a German bean salad, all you have to do is substitute canned beans for the cucumbers, and add some onions. Tastes good, too.

Lentil Soup with Lemon

this is so tasty! The only thing I changed is I added a bit of curry and ginger (personal preference). It was perfect.

Pan-Fried Asparagus

at the garlic at the end, and this will be perfect. It works for most vegetables, especially green beans.

Princess Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
It's important you make them as small as you can, and possibly leave out the egg, otherwise they turn out too spongey. The flavors are nice.

Glazed Orange Spice Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
These really were very good. The spices complement the orange quite nicely. The glaze was a bit too sweet for my taste (but I suppose the sweetness depends on the type of marmalade you use, so my advice: use one with a high-fruit, low-sugar content). The texture was good. Crisp on the outside, spongey on the inside. If you like less of a spongey cookie, like me, I advice making the squares smaller, and leaving them in the oven for 2 to 4 minutes longer.

I only had one-and-a-half pounds of spinach, and still turned out wonderful!

Real Hummus

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
Okay, WOW! I just made this with all the edited suggestions by the original author (= 2 cloves of garlic instead of one, 3 tbsp tahini instead of 2, and cumin instead of black pepper), and I'm blown away -- it's PERFECTION. I also added some fresh coriander leaves. NUM! I don't think this will last until the party tomorrow (and I don't usually even like hummus that much)! :D

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
I can only say what others have said: these are the easiest and best sugar cookies around! I recommend leaving them in the oven for a max of 8 min, if you like them soft after they've cooled.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
This really is the queen of icing recipes! As other reviewers have suggested, I poured the tsp of milk into the bowl first, slowly adding the confectioner's sugar, while stirring, and adding more milk, as needed (don't add too much milk, or the icing will become too runny, esp with the food coloring added to it later). It really does turn out smooth and shiny and simply wonderful!

Spinach Quiche

I did everything exactly as described in the recipe -- and this is, hands down, the BEST Quiche I have ever tasted. EVERYBODY raved about this. It's simply AWESOME.

Ali's Amazing Bruschetta

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2006
very good, very easy, very healthy (if you don't use cheese). Unlike other reviewers, I did not think the bread needed toasting prior to baking at all. Broiling it in the oven for a few minutes is enough to get them crispy. Also tastes good with dried oregano, although I highly recommend using fresh herbs. Definitely put oil on the breads before spreading the bruschetta on. It'll make sure the tomato mix won't fall off the breads.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2006
These were good, although not the best. I do like the store-bought ones better, but that might just be my corrupted taste. I didn't think these were too cakelike, although they could have been more chewy and fudge-like. I recommend doubling the ingredients. Definitely don't overbeat ingredients!

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2006
Excellent ham. Easy recipe. I bought a spiral cut ham at $1.70 per pound and it was perfect (if you like ham, that is). Juicy to the bone. I did leave out the cloves because I was afraid it might taste too clove-y and cut the sauce in half.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2005
My husband and I aren't big cookie fans, but since everybody raved about this recipe I thought I'd try it out. It really didn't taste that special: bland, boring -- like all other chocolate chip cookies. The only plus was that the cookies stayed soft for a long time. EDIT: I made these again the other day. This time around, I added the juice and chopped peel of one lemon. And they tasted much, much better.
