Jewish Style Sweet and Sour Brisket

Reviewed: May 24, 2011
This is really good brisket! I added quite a bit of extra garlic, browned the meat in a skillet and cooked it in the slow cooker for about eight hours on low. I'm looking forward to the leftovers!

Moist Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
Good, moist coffee cake...I substituted raspberry yogurt for sour cream (since I didn't have nearly enough sour cream) and oats for the nuts. It was good though might be better with the original ingredients.

Meatball Bread Pudding

Reviewed: May 18, 2011
My toddler loved this, my husband didn't care for it and I thought it was just okay. I followed the recipe though used mozzarella cheese since it's what I had in the fridge. It's an easy recipe and I would advise lightly greasing the pan before putting the bread in it.

Cinnamon-Orange Swirl Bread

Reviewed: May 16, 2011
What wonderful, moist orange bread! I took some of the other reviewers' suggestions and substituted a quarter of the white sugar (in the batter) for brown sugar and used only brown sugar in the middle/topping mix. I also used the extra orange peel in the bread and took half of the peeled orange, put it in the food processor and added that to the bread. Oh, and I used butter since I didn't have butter flavored shortening. Mini chocolate chips might be good in this bread too!

Original Nestle® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
I've made these cookies numerous times and they turn out well. I halved the salt, increased the flour by three TBSP. and doubled the vanilla. While it's not my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, it's definitely good. In case you want to know, my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe can be found in a book entitled, Dessert University, which is authored by a former White House pastry chef. Those chocolate chip cookies ROCK!

Tangy Chicken Fajitas

Reviewed: May 5, 2011
Excellent fajitas! I left out the bell pepper because I don't care for them, but otherwise followed the recipe. My husband loved these and they were simple to prepare. Needless to say, I'll be making these again!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
My husband really like this recipe. I used pork shoulder, which I kind of regret using since there was so much fat on the meat. But, it was still very good and I would make this again.

Pull-Apart Hot Cross Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
I got about 18 buns from this recipe. The cardamom gives it a unique flavor. I thought they were good but not outstanding. I'm hoping I'll find some other good recipes to use cardamom in since I bought it specifically for this recipe and the stuff is expensive!

Old Fashioned Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
I made this dish to accompany the Easter ham. I used the cheese I had on hand - colby jack and cheddar. It was good, though I will try a different mac and cheese recipe next time. This recipe just seemed to be missing a little something...

Teriyaki Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
My husband thought the wings turned out pretty well. I used pineapple juice in place of the water and used a combination of brown and white sugar. I'll probably try a different wing recipe next time though this was an easy recipe to make.

Cottage Cheese Loaf

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
I made the loaf into fifteen muffins and added cinnamon and nutmeg to the batter as others suggested. Unfortunately, I found the muffins to be quite plain, so I won't be making them again.

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
So good and so easy! As suggested, the three kennel test was done to make sure the oil was ready. I'll definitely be using this recipe again and again and again!

Oatmeal Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
I followed others' recommendation of reducing the butter. I thought they were pretty good, though if I make them again I think I might soak the oatmeal in the milk prior to adding it all to the batter.

Linnie's Spanish Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2011
Not all that exciting, but still good. My husband thought it needed some lime or cilantro to liven it up a bit. I cooked the rice in chicken broth and sauted the rice and garlic in a little butter.

Easy Lasagna II

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
Easy and good lasagna...I used mild Italian sausage instead of hamburger, ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese and some extra sauce. I'll probably try a different easy lasagna recipe next time though.

Mashed Potato Cakes

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
My husband really enjoyed these and said it reminded him of Japanese cakes (something an exchange student made for his family). I sauted the onion with minced garlic and added about a cup of shredded cheese to the potato mixture. I baked some and cooked some on the skillet. The ones on the skillet turned out much better, so I just ended up putting the baked ones on the skillet to brown them up a bit more. By the way, this is a great way to use up extra mashed potatoes!

Pan-Seared Tilapia

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
I thought this was pretty good and I'm not a huge fish fan. I added most of a packet of Old Bay Seasoning to the flour mixture and just realized I forgot to brush on the butter at the end. Oh well, it was still good!

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
I'd definitely make this bread again. As suggested, I used half brown sugar, half white sugar. I also doubled the cinnamon and added a half teaspoon of nutmeg. I put the batter into six mini loaves and six muffins. I added raisins to three of the muffins and they were good with raisins too. I might also consider adding a glaze or frosting to make the bread into more of a dessert.
