Wintertime French Style Split Pea Soup

This one is a winner! The secret ingredient is really the turmeric. I used to be the only person in my family who loved pea soup until this recipe came along. It's definitely my favorite version, and the only one I make now.

Cheese-Stuffed Jalapenos

People are always hesitant to try these when I make them since they're afraid of burning their tongues, but with the option to boil some of the heat out (I boil for 5 min.) they're a lot more crowd friendly. Once, when I made these little gems for a family get together, a cousin said "these would be great on a burger" I plan to try that very soon. They are great by themselves too though -quite addictive! Also, they turn out even better when you bake them on a stone - pampered chef has some great ones.

Party Mimosa

This recipe was a wonderful mix of fruity flavors that were not too sweet. I had been looking for a use for a bottle of champagne that was way too "brut" or dry for my taste and this worked perfecly. My friends were asking for the recipe all night!

Apple Pecan Cornbread Dressing

Ah...Comfort food. This made my stove top hating friend's jaw hit the floor when I told her that there was stove top in there! To free up the oven while I cooked the turkey and put the stuffing in the crockpot on high a few hours ahead of time. I stirred once every hour. To offset the sweetness that previous reviewers complained of, I only added one cup of apple juice and one cup of chickeb broth which gave it a slightly sweet flavor which really complemented the apples. Did I mention that this was the first time I ever made homemade stuffing and it was REALLY easy?!!

Vickie's Beer Bread

So, I haven't finished this recipe yet, but it just started my new oven (this is the second time I'm using it.)on fire when the the bread rose and pushed the melted margarine onto the heating element. A couple shakes of baking soda fixed the problem, so if I can collect myself, I will proceed with an old cookie sheet under the pan to catch the drippings.

My Best Clam Chowder

I am a huge fan of New England clam chowder and this one set the bar even higher for me. The secret ingredient really is the red wine vinegar. Before it was added the soup tasted okay for clam chowder but afterward it was completely tranformed! I can't wait to make this one again!

Mimi's Curried Hawaiian Chicken Salad

I gave this recipe a 5 star rating because of quite a few modifications. Without modifications, it gets a 2. First, this makes a ton so half the recipe. From there, add a teaspoon of paprika along with listed ingredients. Add at least 1 tablespoon of honey, more if you like. Add about 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard, and instead of almonds, add a Tablespoon of poppy seeds. Oh yeah, double the curry. I did not add pinapple, but i've had chicken salad that way and really liked it. With these changes it will be yummy, but it is even better the next day as it says in the recipe. The curry flavor is more pronounced the next day.

Poppy Seed Dressing I

I wasn't very impressed. The mayonaise flavor prevailed, and there were too many poppy seeds. Also, the dressing was way too thin compared to any other poppy seed dressing you would buy at the store.

Acorn Squash

I never tried the original recipe so I cant rate that. But, with the modifications I made, it was fabulous (I'm sure its very good without the modifications too.) Anyway, I added cinnamon and ground cloves to the brown sugar, and cooked the squash in the microwave. I have also used differnt kids of squash like dumpling, carnival, and buttercup. All have turned out great!

Wine Jelly

I used half cheap merolot and half cheap lambrusco and had fabulous results! I used the powder pectin as stated in the recipe and my jelly was perfect. I have no idea what happened with other reviewers... the only thing I did differently was that i put mine in plastic containers and placed it in the fridge because I don't know how to can.

African Chicken Stew

This recipe definitely deserves 5 stars and is worth cleaning and deboning a chicken. I used regular peanut butter and did not have coriander seeds, so i doubled the cumin. Tastes fabulous! I keep swatting my husband's hand because he keeps snooping! Next time, I will add cilantro and double the recipe so I can freeze some for later!

Pudding Chocolate Chippers

these were fantastic. I didnt prepare well though, because I only had chocolate pudding and peanut butter chips on hand. If the original is even better, i can't wait to try it!
