Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
If I rate this as the recipe calles I would give it a 4 but with my additions its deffinately a 5. I added some crushed garlic and added the rest of the ingredients to butter. I left the skin on the whole chicken but separated it from the meat. I smeared the butter mixture between the skin and meat. I also added a chicken cube in the bottom of the crockpot with a little water to give it a little extra taste. It turned out excelent. I am making this again for sure. The chicken came out so tender and juicy. Using balls of foil at the bottom helps alot, the chicken doesn't stick to the bottom and the meat doesn't turn out to soft. Thank you very much for sharing.

Savoiardi I

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
I was in the mood to make cookies today but a different kind. These looked like they would fit well. Making it was interesting and kind of fun too. Adding the flour was just weird. It didn't mix well so my first few cookies were just egg tasting. I mixed it more cause I noticed it was clumpy and the second batch was a little more firm. I didn't use a piping bag cause I don't have one so I just spooned then on the cookie sheet. My first impression when I took them out of the oven was "great I messed it up" they were very soft almost like making marangue. After cooling for an hour they are now sticky and kind of goowy. They have an interesting texture. I used orange extract instead of vanilla cause I ran out. The taste if good. I don't think I'll make these again though cause I was looking more for a cookie then this. Maybe I just didn't do it right, I don't know. Thanks for sharing.

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
This is a very yummy macaroni salad. I halved the recipe though because I was the only one eating it. I read alot of reviews and it seemed like alot said it was too sweet so I added the sugar slowly until I found it just right, I ended up using only half of what was called for. I didn't use celery or peppers as I had none and used 2 eggs. I was making it to eat for lunch so I used only half the dressing at first but reserved the rest for tomorrow if it needs more. I do agree with another review that this would be even better with potato salad and will try it. I will definately be making this dressing over and over again, thanks for sharing. UPDATE: I just made this with potatoes and it turned out even better then with the macaroni. I still added the 2 eggs as it adds more flavor to it. I made the macaroni salad once with no eggs and it was kind of bland like it was missing something, so adding the eggs adds alot of flavor.

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
These did not turn out how I thought they would. I ended up having to bake the cookie twice as long because it was still not cooked after the given time. The caramel part was really good but never got hard or even stiff which was fine when I poured it over the cookie but not good when I tried to cut it. The chocolate, not sure what I did wrong with it, but it just never got smooth. I microwaved it just a little at a time to avoid burning and it still stayed hard and lumpy. Wouldn't spread out and with the caramel not getting stiff it kind of mixed in a little and looked very amaturish. My kids liked it but not loved it, I found it way too sweet and I have a very big sweet tooth. I may try these again but not right now.

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2009
I've never had a blondie before and they tasted like I thought they would. Very yummy!!! I didn't melt the butter before mixing with sugar and I used salted butter and omitted the salt. I used a round cake pan. The only thing that was off was the baking time, it took 45 min for mine to bake nice, the edges raised up alot and it browned quite a bit but that could just be the pan I used. Still though they came out just like a blondie should and they will not last very long. Thanks for sharing!

Chicken and Roasted Garlic Risotto

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2009
Ok I made this for lunch for me and my girls (2-4). It was very easy to make. I didn't add the chicken though. My 2 yr old made a discusted face but took another bite right after then ate it all up and asked for more so she enjoyed it. My 4yr old however didn't really enjoy it but didn't make a big fight to eat it. I think next time I may only add half of the cream of mushroom soup cause I found it a little over powering on the mushroom. I did enjoy it alot though and had 2 bowls of it. I am going to freeze the rest in small bags so I can take some out as a quick lunch. Oh did I mention this is my fist time ever trying risotto, and I'm glad I did. Yummy UPDATE: These do not freeze well, the rice gets hard and it looses its flavour. Still a very yummy recipe though

Chocolate Macaroons I

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2009
Ok so these are good but nothing spectacular. At first when everything was mixed it was easy to scoop them and put them on the cookie sheet. By the time the first batch was done in the oven the mixture had turned a little hard which made them harder to scoop up because they crumbled alot. I always thought chocolate macaroons where made with cocoa powder. Still good though. UPDATE: I changed my rating to 3, :( after being in the fridge a few days they just become hard around the edges and hard chewy in the middle. They didn't get eaten, the kids didn't really like them, said they were too hard.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
These are yummy, like mini banana bread. I added skor pieces instead of chocolate chip. I only made 36 for now and am freezing the rest of the batter for another day. Will post here next time I make them to let everyone know if the batter was ok.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Thumbprint Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
These are definately good. My girls(2-4) both loved them and my 4yr old loved poking the holes in them. I only did 2 things different, I only had 1 1/2 cups flour so I added 1/2 cup whole wheat flour and for the peanut butter I didn't add the oil, I just microwaved it for 15 sec and it was nice and runny. The best way to drizzle the pb is to put them on a plastic placemat close together and just drizzle that way. I made a mess when I tried doing them idividually. The cookie part made me a little nervous cause there really isn't much to them but they turned out nice and crispy.

Becki's Oven Barbecue Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
This is definately a 5 star for me. I did make a few changes but nothing major. I didn't have any onion powder so I added minced onions, I also added 2 small cloves. As per other reviews I started with 1/2 a cup of ketchup and that was enough for me, it doesn't over power the taste. Oh I also added a tbsp of soya sauce. YUMMY I haven't even tried it with anything yet but I'm sure this will be a hit. Will be making the chicken wings tonight for supper.

Five Minute Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
I'm giving this a 2 for now simply because I didn't use strawberries I used blueberries. I'm giving this a 2 because it was WAY to sweet. I read many reviews and saw that alot of people were having issues with the gridyness from the sugar so I disolved the sugar in the milk before adding together. I also put a little blueberries and milk in the blender to help it blend better. I came out nice but liquidy so I froze it for a few hours then it was fine. Not very griddy at all so not sure if putting the sugar in the milk first helped. My 4yr old LOVES blueberries and would only eat them if I let her, she didn't want the ice cream said it was too sweet. I will try again though with strawberries next time and melt the sugar again. I think maybe its just the type of fruit added that the sugar needs to be adjusted accordingly. Oh after freezing over night it still wasn't rock hard so thats nice, I hate nothing more then rock hard ice cream. Thanks for sharing. :)

Dumpling Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2009
Mmmmmm this is yummy! I did forget to add the bacon though and I added some chicken broth and it is very tasty. Not much needed in this soup, maybe some chicken or even bacon hehe. I will definatly make this again and might try pureeing the potatoes before adding the dumplings. Just to give those who've never made dumplings before, I dropped these by marble size and they came out about the size of a quarter. Oh when I made the dumplings I used 1/2 a cup of whole wheat flour just to make it a little healthier. I may add some carrots next time also. I'm sitting here eating this soup as I am writing this review and I started with chunks of potatoes which was good but wanted to see what it would be like if I would puree it so I mushed the potatoes and it is even better, the dumpling doesn't have to fight with the potato to fit in the spoon. Mmmmm

Scottish Shortbread IV

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
These are very yummy even my 1 & 4 yr old girls agree! I cut the recipe in half as I only had 1 cup of butter. The only thing I did different is I did not knead the dough and I sprinkled them with white sugar. The reason I did not knead the dough is cause I used a spatula to cream the butter then I slowly added the flour until it was stiff enough and when I formed a ball it didn't melt down. I used a tbsp to measure out and rolled them into balls, flattened them a little and sprinkled the tops with white sugar. Not sure how long I baked them for but it was just before they started to turn golden around the edges. These made 35 cookies using half of what the recipe called for. I just took them out of the oven and we already ate 10 of them. They will deffinatly not last long. I will have to make more. OH I used salted margerine not butter. Update:March 11 2009. I have made these twice since the first review and I did make 2 changes. I used real unsalted butter instead of margerine and used 1/2 cup rice flour. I will still be tweeking this recipe a little to make them more flaky but not much is needed and they are really good as the recipe calls. These will be great for Easter as I will sprinkle Easter colored sugar on them.

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2009
I am very surprised with this recipe. Having such a high rating I was expecting something really good. I followed the recipe except that I only had 1 egg left and I'm sure that's not why this recipe didn't turn out for me. Its just blah, almost flavourless. It also turned out really dark, unlike the picture. I won't be making this recipe again, will stick with A-number-1 banana cake from this site. Sorry.

Sweet Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
I'm rating it a 4 only because it made way to much and I didn't get to enjoy it much as I was the only one to eat it. But its a very high 4. This is the recipe I've been looking for for many years now. My mom had made this once and I loved it! She never made it again and couldn't find the recipe. I will definately make this again however I will reduce the portion to 2-3 and put the brown sugar after its done baking as it was hard to cut into it. Thanks for sharing and I almost guarantee the rating will go to 5 next time I try it.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
Ok so these are by far NOT the best brownies. I took others advise and mixed it by hand so not to add to much air and make it cake like and it still came out blah cakish. I made them the day before I had compagnie. My daughter helped me make them and only took a bite, didn't want to eat more and my guests said it was too cake like and not dense enough. I will look for a better recipe. UPDATE:APRIL24 WOW forgot I had made these before, how very disapointing! I doubled it to bring to school for my DD's 5th b-day and now I have to trash it and start all over, glad I did it ahead of time. very cake like and oh so bland! looks NOTHING like the video instruction, booooooo!!!!

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
My mom was looking for a good biscotti recipe that wasn't too sweet so I gave her this recipe, I haven't tried these yet but sheis giving really good ratings. If she could she would rate this 10+ stars. The only thing she did different was used frozen cranberries, she thawed them and drained the liquid, cut them in half, she also used doubled the cranberries. I also gave her the advise from another review to use water to wet hands and clean hands when rolling the dough and she said this worked really well. She will deffinatly make these again and again and again. I'm going to have to try it myself. Thanks for the great recipe.

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
I would give this a 4.5 but can't. I added 1tsp of vanilla by accident but was still very good. I put the oats first and gave them a whirl just to make them more like powder. Next time I might add less strawberry cause I like more a banana taste then strawberries, but otherwise very yummy and both my girls love it too(20months and 4). Thanks for sharing.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
These were pretty good but found it a little too sweet for my taste and thats why it only gets a 4 and not the full 5. I will make these again but add less sugar. Thanks for sharing. **Jan 7, 2009 I change my rating to 3. There were ok the first day I made these and I guess if you plan on eating them all right away then there soft but once there older then 1 day they become kind of hard and chewy in a bad way. Sorry was hoping these would be better. Maybe I was supposed to make the pudding first then add it to the recipe but I just added the powder.

Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
I'm only giving this a 3 today but I think I messed it up so it may change next time I try them. When I made potatoes I let them cool completely before mashing and it was alot harder to mash. Next time I'll whip them up with an electric mixer while still hot to get a smooth potato. I also didn't have mint so I used orange extract. It did tast ok but the lumps of potatoes made it taste weird. Also I put the potato mixture in the freezer to harden before putting in chocolate but the potato never harden. Maybe I didn't add enough sugar, hmmm I did add almost 2 bags of it though. So this recipe gets an interesting rating from me.
