About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Anything and everything. I love to experiment and try new things, to play with flavors and textures, and presentations.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The only real cooking tradition we had is one that I've already broken several times over. It was simple, nothing from a box, can or package.
My cooking triumphs
This will sound odd, but my greatest cooking triumph is getting over my fear of live ingredients, namely mussels. They still squick me a bit but they are way too good to let that stop me!
My cooking tragedies
Once, I tried to make pasta at home, without a pasta maker. I found what seemed like a simple recipe and got to working on it. Only I'd missed the part where it said that the dough had to be rolled out more than once. Ooops! Thank goodness for the store bought stuff!

Bacon Water Chestnut Rolls
The only thing I do differently is to soak the water chestnuts in soy sauce the night before I make them. It adds a little bit of smokey goodness to the rest.

Sweet and Savory Kale
This has become a quick and simple staple in my house. I play a little fast and loose with the ingredients based on what's available...but LOVE this!

Honey-Brined Fried Chicken Breasts
This was pretty good all things considered. I tweaked it a little as I went by adding a favorite spice mix to the flour. The next time I make it I will double dredge the chicken as others have mentioned, and will make it on a weekend so time isn't such an issue.
