Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
These cookies were delicious. If you want a crispy, hard ginerbread man, roll the dough pretty thin. If you want a soft cookie, roll the dough thicker and bake for less time. However, I found that with my taller cookies they cracked a lot. So I recommend making smaller cookies. Also, the flavor of them gets better with time.

Delilah's Frosted Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
I followed the recipe exactly. These tasted like heaven but the dough was difficult to work with. I only chilled it for two hours and it was too soft so I stuck it in the freezer for twenty minutes. After that it was incredibly cold, but still very soft and very difficult to cut shapes out of.

Peanut Blossoms

Followed recipe exactly. Not sweet enough. I suggest increasing ammount of white sugar, and possibly decreasing brown sugar because it was too molassesy for me.

Mary's Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2006
I was going to give this recipe two stars, as I was very dissatisfied with it, but finally after it cooled I decided that it tasted good. I left out the nuts because nobody I know likes nuts. Unless you want the inside of your brownies to be undercooked and gewey, I suggest using a larger pan, because I had to cook my brownies for twice as long as it said to, even though I halved the recipe, and the outsides were getting to be too done but it was apparent that the middle was never going to get cooked. But the end result was very fudgey so if you're into that then by all means have batter-filled brownies when you're done. Also, I found them difficult to cut because the top would just crack off and leave the brownie itself. It also kind of tasted weird; a lot like fudge. Definately not cakey. But overall it tasted good.

Fudgy Brownies I

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2006
BEST RECIPE EVER! I've tried maybe 6 brownie recipes before and I never liked any of them, and I didn't understand why everyone else's brownies tasted so good and I could never make them myself. But I have finally found a recipe that I love because doesn't taste like fudge and it doesn't taste like cake; it tastes like a brownie.

Marshmallow Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2006
Pretty good, but it sort of had a weird taste. I think it is too molassesey, and I used golden brown sugar. Perhaps half of the brown sugar should be substituted with white. I also cut the chocolate chips down to 1 cup but I'm thinking that 1 1/2 cups would be best. One small piece of advice,if you use a frozen stick of butter, be sure to melt it before you try and melt the butterscotch chips.

Sara Jane's Oatmeal Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2006
Verry good and moist. I thought it tasted like banana bread, probably due to the nutmeg. I did not use any frosting, it doesn't need it, and i baked it in a bundt pan. Makes a great coffee cake that way.

Applesauce Bars

I didn't have pumpkin pie spice, so i used half cinnamon and half nutmeg. It made it taste like banana bread. These are really more of a cake than a bar. Good though.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2006
Delicious! I used 3/4 cups butter and 1/4 cups shortening, decreased the salt and increased baking soda, and increased oats to 1 1/3 cups although I wish now that I had used atleast 1 1/2 cups, because you could barely tell that there were any oats in them. I divided the batter into thirds and made some with white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and milk chocolate chips. The best are the white chocolate, and I don't even usually like white chocolate chips.

Angel Food Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
Very light spongey. Tastes like storebought angel food cake but fresher. Just in case you were wondering, you don't need to flour or grease your pan or anything like that. It shouldn't stick even if your pan isn't nonstick. I just went around the edges with a knife when it came out of the oven. I served my angel food cake hot with a berry compote I made (frozen berries and sugar boiled together).Very delicious, but also very good plain two days later if you saran-wrap it.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2005
I've made this recipe twice, once i halved it and made it in a bundt pan, and the other time i added mini chocolate chips and made cupcakes. Both times they came out beautifully. I don't know what other people are talking about, it being too dry. My cake/cupcakes came out deliciously moist. So if you follow the recipe exactly like I did, you should have a georgous result.

Swedish Angel Crisps

Very light and crisp. I didn't use any nuts, because my family is allergic to them, and i also used 1/3 cup cocoa powder and 1 tbsp cinnamon. The end result tasted like a graham cracker, but it was good because i like graham crackers.

Deep Dish Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2005
These brownies tasted great! They even get the nice little flaky layer on top! I waited until they completely cooled before cutting. I also only used 2 eggs and omitted the baking powder, but you shouldn't listen to other reviewers when they say it only needs to baked for half an hour. The recipe says to bake 40 to 45 minutes, I did 40, and even after they cooled, the middle brownies were still battery in the center, and you could taste the rawness. My friend liked it because she likes gooey things but I myself prefer the taste of doneness. So if you know that you have an oven that usually bakes things a bit faster than others, decrease the baking time, by all means. But if you usually have to bake things for a longer time than the recipe calls for (like me) then stick to the suggested baking time and maybe even extend it a little. Not all ovens are the same, so basically just know what type of oven you have.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2005
I made regular sized muffins and also mini ones. Made no difference. I thought they were good, although they tasted more like doughnut holes than muffins. My brother wouldn't eat them; he said they were too sugary. If I were to make these again, I would use the crumb topping SPARINGLY, because they're supposed to be muffins, not brown sugar balls.

Cowboy Cookies III

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2005
These were very good, the only problem is that they spread out SO MUCH when you bake them! I put 12 cookies one one sheet and by the time they came out of the oven they were one giant blob. I had to use a knife to cut them apart into square-ish cookies, and then they had no crusts so they just fell apart. I ruined half of them when I tried to scoop them off the sheets (even though I did wait the whole five minutes for them to cool). Even after the good cookies were cooled you couldn't hold one up without supporting the whole cookie because it would just fall in half. I suggest you read other reviews to find out how to make them keep their shape. Overall a very floppy cookie. Tasted great though.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2005
These are very good if you like rich cookies. I made the mistake of using a health nut peanut butter (which I never really liked) which only had peanuts and oil listed as ingredients. So I suggest you use a good quality, sweet peanut butter like Jif or Skippy. And also, when you take the cookies out of the oven, you may not think that they are done, but they really are! Do not cook them for longer than it says to because they will harden up later, trust me!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

These were awesome! At first I didn't have any instant vanilla pudding mix at my house so I had to go and buy it from the store, but it was well worth it because these cookies were so gooey and delicious. Now I always have extra boxes of pudding around in case I want to make this recipe again!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2005
It was fine when I was making the pie crust, and it even rolled out nicely, but when I went to eat my apple pie that I had made, the crust was not flaky at all. In fact, it was almost impossible to cut off a piece with my fork. The crust was fine, I guess. But I don't think I will be using this recipe again.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
I didn't follow exactly what the instructions said and probably over-mixed the batter. I made them as if I was making cookies and beat the butter and sugar together, then added one egg at a time, and then slowly added the sifted dry ingredients. I guess I should have read other reviews first that said to stir it with a plain old spoon. Maybe I will try this recipe again but prepare them properly.
