Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
I used carrots instead of celery. (We don't like celery.) I also used chicken broth and added poultry seasoning, a bay leaf, and some garlic powder. I still thought it was a bit bland, but the family liked it. With these changes, it would be good for a sick day, but for a regular dinner, I would like a little more flavor. I still give it four stars because it is easy, tasty, and can be made with ingredients I have on hand.

Chile Garlic BBQ Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2012
This was really good. And easy to boot! I used 1 t ground ginger, as I didn't have fresh, and I used bottled lime juice in place of the fresh juice and zest. Next time I might throw a few green onions in with the foil. We had the grill on high and used the rack. There wasn't much sauce left to serve on top. Might try it differently next time to try to have more sauce.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2012
This was pretty good, but a little bland for my taste. Slow cookers tend to dull flavor, so feel free to add more spices. I might add more soy sauce and some seasonings next time.

Glazed Cinnamon Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
Really good and really easy. A nice alternative to yeast rolls. I took another reviewer's suggestion and added 2 T of sugar to the dough. I also melted the butter and mixed it with the cinnamon and sugar to make a paste instead of sprinkling them on. Didn't lose a single bit of it onto the cutting board. Used a pizza cutter to cut the rolls. I didn't put any butter in the glaze and it tasted fine. I also made these dairy free by substituting soy milk and dairy-free margarine, as my son is allergic. Whole family loved these.

Cranberry Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2011
These were just okay for me. The flavors were good and the cranberry mixture smelled and tasted wonderful, but they were crumbly even after leaving them in the pan for a couple of hours. My cake mixture was very moist and gooey. There was no way I was going to be able to "press" them into the pan. Might be because I used instant oats, but not sure. Not sure the flavor was good enough to warrant another try.

Creamy Pear Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2011
This was good and pretty simple. I used a mixture of bosc and d'anjou pears. I did think the lemon extract dominated a bit, so I may try something different next time.

Southwestern Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I give this five stars with the changes I made. I followed CookinMommy1's directions for the most part, though I forgot to add the cilantro and added the cheese and sour cream to individual portions. My son thought the tomato pieces were too big, so next time I will use petite diced tomatoes, I will also use a little less broth next time, as I thought it was a little watery. Maybe just 3 cups. I cooked it in the slow cooker for 6 hours.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
This took longer than all day. Next time I will make it "all night" apple butter, starting it in the evening, then turning it down and going to bed. It should be ready to can when I get up! A friend of mine tried it this way and worked very well.

Sweet-Potato Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
These were delicious. I used some leftover cooked sweet potatoes, about 2 cups and added them to the WET ingredients, mixing on low speed. I then added the wet to the dry and mixed again. I did add 1/2 c milk (soy milk) to thin the batter a little. I did not add walnuts or raisins, as we're not big fans here. I then filled the muffin cups about 2/3 full, getting 24 muffins out of it. I baked them for 20 minutes. My whole family thought they were wonderful.

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
I usually bake my sweet potatoes. I had previously baked several and then frozen the mash in 2c portions, so I used one of those. I also substituted soy milk and dairy-free margarine, but it turned out deliciously! No one would know it's dairy free!

Pizza Pinwheels

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
These were good but not great. I spread a VERY thin layer of pizza sauce on the crescent roll dough before adding the pepperoni and cheese. I did chop the pepperoni.

Pear and Gorgonzola Cheese Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
This recipe has an excellent tastiness to easiness ratio. It is extremely easy and is really good. I served it as an appetizer at a party. Everyone was asking for the recipe.

Pumpkin Spice Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
I thought these were good, but not great. That said, they were very simple and my son loved them. I just think they could use some tweaking. The only change I made was to add chocolate chips. Might try one reviewers suggestion of gingerbread mix instead next time.

Cinnamon Plum Jam

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
This was really easy and delicious. I did not peel my plums to give it the fabulous red color. I skimmed off most of them, but left some in. It didn't seem to affect the taste or texture really. I also doubled the cinnamon and only used 4 cups of sugar. I got a little over 5 half-pint jars.

Spiced Plum Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
When I baked this, it browned on the top really quickly and did not cook through. However, when I ate the cooked parts, it was really delicious. I may try this again and try cooking it at 325 instead of 350.

Cinnamon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
This was AMAZING! I agree with another reviewer that it does taste just like a snickerdoodle. This did not thicken in the ice cream maker like I am used to with other ice creams, but it did thicken in the freezer after 24 hours. Also, this only made 1 qt. Next time I will double the recipe, as I have a 2 qt ice cream maker.
