Picnic Slaw

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2012
This is terrific. Just know, that if want your slaw to resemble the photo, you are going to have to hand slice EVERYTHING....I guess, unless you have a really precision food processor. I started to use a regular hand grater, and it made it so tiny like fast food slaw. You need bigger pieces for the colorful effect.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2006
I have tried quite a few recipes for pizza crust in my bread machine....always dissapointed I gave up... When I took this one out of the machine and started working with it, I knew it was "different". It glided through my hands like silk. I used half a recipe and got a medium-thin crust 12 inch pizza. Great texture and taste! I like to prebake the crust for 3 minutes, then add the sauce and cheese and bake it for about 10 more minutes at 500 degrees. I've played with tempertures from 425-450-475. 500 gets the pizza more evenly cooked and keeps it from getting soggy.

Italian Herb Infused Olive Oil

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2007
I wanted some dipping oil for bread I was making now. So I used all dried herbs and let them soak in the oil in a covered bowl for two hours and it was pretty tasty. Nice for a small ammount and a hurry and the herbs started to swell up from soaking making it look more like fresh.

Mexican Rice III

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
This came out perfect! Very tasty. Only substition was I like to use a little can of green chilis instead of jalapenos. I used some canned diced tomatos also since tomatos aren't in season right now. We used this as a side dish with Salsa Chicken from this website-it was a great meal!

Taco Salad I

Great recipe--We mixed some ranch with sour cream like one of our neighborhood Mexican restaurants does and it is really delicious. We used that instead of the French dressing

Mushroom Stuffed Chicken Rollups

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2006
After reading all the reviews- I got so many ideas- I just went with them. I changed quite a few things and we were very pleased with the dish. Briefly; I sauteed onion, garlic, a vegetable broth cube, a splash of red wine, in with the mushrooms. I added a couple of tablespoons of sour cream in the stuffing mixture. I put a slice of asiago cheese over the rolled chicken breast, and topped it with a mixture of cream of mushroom soup and cream. Also added a few extra spices here and there. It is now in our "hall of fame" the tried and true regular recipes that we make all the time!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
I am sure this is a great recipe from all the reviews. The problem I had was I have a small crock pot, so I purchased a 3 lb picnic ham which to my delight fit perfectly in my crock pot. I had no idea how to adjust the time difference so I figured 3-4 hours on low. Apparently it was done in about an hour or two. At 3 1/2 hrs it was brown and tough and in the garbage. So I just wanted to write this to help someone in the same predictament.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake II

Excellent desert!! My dinner guests kept asking me "Where did you BUY this from" The recipe makes enough for two pies if you use the ready made crusts in the pans.

Green Beans with Bread Crumbs

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
After reading the negative comments on the bread crumbs, I just made it without them and I thought it was super! I just used canned green beans too. It kind of tasted like spinach fettucine alfredo.

Bagels I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
These are great. It's interesting to make different flavors and use different kinds of flours. I have mixed in whole wheat, oat flour, oat bran, flax meal, soy flour. When you add whole grains just be sure to add extra water as needed until proper consistancy is achieved. Whole grains soak up quite a bit of water.

Turned out great. Used pinenuts-never tried the walnuts before, might give it a try next time. Didn't have fresh basil. Probably used around a fourth of a cup of dried basil.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
Just reference for anyone with a smaller weight breast. Put a 2.5 lb boneless breast in a rival crockpot on low (10hr) setting only, and it had a pop up timer which was great so I could actually see when it was finished cooking, and it took exactly 3 hours and ten minutes.
