Melon Trio with Sherry and Mint

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2007
So refreshing! I loved the little hits of mint with the fruit. It was beautiful to look at and the sherry elevated the flavor to something very, very special indeed. I would definitely have this again.

Chimichurri Sauce for Steaks

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
From now on, everything I eat will have a dab of this chimichurri sauce on it. Even ice cream. I kid. No, seriously. I just had it on grilled shrimp. Just now. Sorry - none left for you. But it was oh my god good. Make some and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Mojito

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
This is now my Mojito. You can have some too. You're welcome. Useful tip--because there should be one--this tastes best when served very cold. Lukewarm Mojito bad. Ice cold Mojito good.

Mojo Grilling Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
I can't imagine how this recipe could be any better. Soak a gnarly slab of flank steak in it overnight, slap that bad boy on the grill, and pour yourself a Mojito, baby!

Cuban Black Beans II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
Boy, did I love this! We served it as a side dish to chicken and steak soaked in Mojo Grilling Marinade (from this site), rice, mango and avocado salad...all washed down with Mojitos (also from this site). Outstanding meal!

Margie's Cuban Sofrito (Sauce)

A bright hit of flavor to go with grilled flank steak in Mojo Grilling Marinade and Cuban Black Beans II (both from this site).

Rum Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
This was the perfect ending of today's Cuban feast. It was so perfect, I had to have two pieces (one with whipped cream and one without) just to make sure I was experiencing real perfection and not a mere facsimile thereof. And to think I used to turn my nose up at boxed cake mix! This recipe certainly elevates the convenient to the sphere of the divine. (That's the rum talking.)

Pisco Sour

Sublime attitude adjustment, and not a moment too soon. Perfectly balanced, with a pleasingly bitter finish. Sort of like a David Sedaris essay.

Beet and Pear Puree

I could not stop eating this. And it's absolutely gorgeous on the holiday table. (Just don't let any drip on your white tablecloth.) This recipe is a keeper!

Stir Fried Sesame Vegetables with Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2006
I really like the balance of flavors. I might add a little more fresh ginger, but that's just me.

This is my favorite non-tomato pizza yet. Great combination of flavors. Straight into the recipe box it goes!

Tangy Turkey and Swiss Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2006
I could eat these sandwiches every week. I guess that means I'd have to roast a turkey every week. Hey, if that's what it takes. What I loved: the crispy bread and the melting cheese and that flavorful mayo and the ripe tomatoes and the sharp onion. This is a keeper. I'm going to try this with different cheeses, too. Brie? Havarti? Irish cheddar?

Amatriciana

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2006
This is a good weeknight meal: quick, satisfying and not a lot of fuss. I like using canned tomatoes instead of pasta sauce from a jar; the taste is fresher and there aren't a lot of mystery ingredients.

Roast Chicken with Rosemary

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2006
Excellent and so easy. I like to add a little dried herb to the seasonings on the skin, and sometimes it's nice to put some garlic and/or lemon in the cavity along with the rosemary and onion, but this recipe is just fine as written. Simple, straightforward, and so succulent!

Pork Tenderloin alla Napoli

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
Absolutely perfect! The cream mellowed the saltiness of the olives, and fresh tomatoes gave the dish color and balance. And it's so easy to make! This goes straight into my recipe box. Thanks for a gorgeous meal.

Skillet Herbed Chicken with Mustard

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2006
This combination didn't work as well as I'd hoped. It was too sweet and there was too much tarragon. And I like tarragon. With a little work this could be much better. How about a little heavy cream to mellow things out?

Zucchini Risotto

A perfect bowl of comfort on this cold and soggy day. I love the thin strips of zucchini; the sun-dried tomatoes are little bursts of flavor. Mmmmm!

Lemon Chicken Tenders

I think kids would enjoy this for the fun and the flavor. This would make a good take-along for playdates in the park. I like this because it's not fried. And the sauce is actually pretty tasty.
