Hot Cross Buns

"Hot cross buns! Hot cross buns! One ha'penny, two ha'penny, hot cross buns! If you have no daughters, give them to your sons. One ha'penny, two ha'penny, hot cross buns!" -- English nursery rhyme.

I have no daughter, so I gave them to my son. He loved his special Easter hot cross buns.

In his words, they were "like eating pillows." I'm sure he meant, "like eating sweet, warm pillows stuffed with currants and drizzled with a powdered sugar/orange juice icing."

My dear friend--I call her The Baking Queen--suggested I use Hunza Bread II as the recipe for these hot cross buns. So I did. And it worked. My friend is amazing, and so are these hot cross buns.

And to top it off, chanting the rhyme was just about as much fun as baking the rolls.

Happy baking to you, and Happy Easter

Those look good! I went to make my Hot Cross Buns Sunday and guess what? No flour! I had used it up on the Braided Easter Bread! The Hunza bread recipe sounds delicious!

Hey Christine - this was only my second time making a sweet dough - and this recipe turned out great. The buns were still soft and sweet the next day, and the next. That certainly isn't the case with the store-bought buns I've had in the past. I'd love to try my hand at a braided bread! Thanks for the visit.

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
