Halloween House of Horror

Check out this fat, happy squirrel. It's perched on top of a Halloween house I made two years ago. Kind of cute, isn't it? Now imagine being a tiny person inside that gingerbread house. Imagine listening in horror as the giant squirrel gnaws its way through the roof, one piece of candy corn at a time. Happy Halloween indeed!

When I brought this year's Halloween gingerbread house to work, some people were curious to know what I would do with it afterwards. Would I eat it? Preserve it? After all, I spent something like 20 hours building it.

How could I tell them that in the past--as this old photo shows--as soon as Halloween is over I've put the gingerbread house in the garden so I could watch the squirrels go to work. Now that's entertainment!

Will I do that with this year's house? I don't know. But if I do, I'll be sure to take photos and share them with you.

Happy Halloween!
Mmmm...candy corn!

Ah ha! Somebody likes candy corn afterall! So "sweet" of you to share your Halloween House with the creatures in the garden. I'd love to see the photos of them munching on their treats! Great idea....

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
