I’ve told you about the mint that ate my garden? Well this weekend I turned the tables on the green menace and ate up some mint. My little skirmish didn’t win the war, but the score was foodelicious 1, monster mint 0. I got lots of great suggestions from visitors to my blog, but I ended… MORE

Have you ever ignored something in your fridge because A) you bought it without figuring out what to do with it, or B) you went on a diet immediately after buying it? That's what happened to some new red potatoes that I saw in all their cuteness at the market and bought on a whim. I figured… MORE

I didn't cook dinner. I chopped and I sliced and I rolled, but at no time did fire come into it. Not that I have anything against fire. Fire is good. It certainly makes eating most animal protein less creepy. And truth be told, one component of my dinner came into contact with heat at some… MORE

My favorite way to spend Mother’s Day is by playing in the dirt. And why not? The apple tree is blooming, the peonies are leafing out, the herb garden is filling in, and the ferns and hostas are almost completely unfurled. So working in my garden is pure pleasure for me. Therefore I’m not… MORE

Cinco de Mayo usually takes me by surprise. Coming home from work and cooking a normal dinner during the week is a big enough deal, but add the challenge of coming up with a thematic meal and my denial reflex kicks right in. Yet this year I actually pulled it together. Surprised the heck out of… MORE

Monday night dinner is usually a clean-out-the-fridge affair. And knowing that I’d be cooking on Tuesday for Cinco de Mayo, I was especially motivated to use up the accumulated odds and ends from the weekend. Too bad the guys already ate almost everything in sight. Must have had something to do… MORE

To be a gardener in Seattle is to bundle up against the cold and the wet and work between the raindrops. Waiting for good weather is for the weak. So when today's downpour lightened up to merely a minor storm, I threw on the thermals, climbed into a pair of rubber boots, and zipped up my rain… MORE

I had a wok-free kitchen until a couple of years ago. If you just snorted in disbelief, I don’t blame you. What’s worse is I’m mostly Asian. I know. Let’s move on.If you’re a true believer and already rock the wok, you won’t be surprised to hear that it’s become one of my kitchen essentials.… MORE

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
