I have a confession to make: I've had fear of yeast. Sure, I've tried to get past it. I've brought home little packets of yeast, vowing to coax the darlings into life and fill my house with the loving aroma of freshly baked bread. But in my pantry the yeast languished until well past its shelf… MORE

It's not enough to stop and smell the lavender; this year I've decided to cook with it. And I won't be running out of this heady little flower any time soon thanks to my inability to accept that a tiny lavender plant eventually grows into a large lavender plant, multiplied by… MORE

It’s early Saturday morning. The birds are cranked up to 11. I’m wide awake and struggling with my conscience: it looks like we’re in for a rare sunny day but it will be half over by the time the rest of the house rolls out of bed. Why do I care? Because there’s heavy lifting to do in the… MORE

Sunday breakfast usually goes something like this: "What do you want to eat?" "I don't know. What do you feel like cooking?" "I don't know." And so on. But this past Sunday I mentioned making pancakes to celebrate Pancake Week and the crowd went wild. Okay, there are only three of us, but you… MORE

Bread pudding: Resistance is futile.   When I was a kid, weekend breakfast with my family was a big deal. Two working parents and five kids in school made for a hectic week, so the only time we could share air space was Saturday or Sunday. And Mom made sure we showed up or else.… MORE

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
