I grew up on "boxed" foods. My mother, bless her soul, was busy raising three girls with my dad working 2nd shifts. Us girls weren't very helpful in the kitchen. So, every Tuesday was Mac-n-Cheese with hotdogs, Wednesday was Hamburger Helper, Friday was fish sticks with frozen french fries, Saturday was pizza (now that was somewhat homemade), and Sunday was the chicken, potatoes, and vegetables. The rest of the days were left-overs. Sooo...when I met my boyfriend of 2 years now I decided I need to learn to cook for him. Plus, his mother does everything from scratch. I've become rather good at baking, but need some help in the actual cooking department. I am 28 years old and made homemade mashed potatoes for the first time a few months ago! Recently I've lost 60 pounds and put back on a few (that's been since the boyfriend) and am desperately trying to learn to cook healthy so I can get healthier.
My favorite things to cook
I absolutely LOVE to bake. My speciaties are cookies. Everyone who has tried the recipes I've done have raved and raved about them. All of my recipes have come from this website. I usually alter the recipes though to my liking. I also love to grill in the summertime. I also like to cook chicken and hamburger. As I am new at cooking, I don't really know what to do much with ingredients. I'm hoping to learn so my dinners can be served with some AWESOME taste!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is more of a baking tradition. My two sisters, my mother, and I get together for Christmas and make cookies. We do peanut blossoms, cutouts, cranberry cookies, fruitcake cookies, peanut butter bon bons, chocolate covered pretzels, russian teacakes, and whatever else sounds good. It is a baking frenzy and I LOVE it!
My cooking triumphs
My biggest triumph has been a chocolate cookie I have gotten on this website. People do not believe me when I say I made them from scratch. Also, a 3-layer Tiramisu cake from this website people have LOVED, too.
My cooking tragedies
My only cooking tragedy is that I don't know what to do. I'm sure I've got wonderful ingredients at my fingertips, but don't know what to do with them.
