Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2006
The sauce is delicious! Very close to a popular Asian franchise we love. I adjusted the recipe to serve 10, and I think I will only decrease the amount of orange zest for our taste. I also was only able to marinate the chicken for one hour (family was hungry!), but the flavor was terrific regardless. My flour coating fell off most of the pieces; perhaps next time I'll just saute the pieces without a flour dredging, or I might deep-fry them instead. I will definately be making this recipe again! Thank you for sharing.

Fried Rice I

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2006
I give this 5 stars because the addition of the bacon makes this rice extra special! I used rice that I had cooked previously with chicken broth and had frozen, and bacon grease because that's what I had on hand (no bacon, just grease)---the whole family loved it! Thank you for the recipe.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2006
I've made these several times and they are always delicious! Very easy and sooo good! UPDATE 9-1-09: ADD THE ZEST OF ONE FRESH LEMON TO YOUR BATTER AND IT GIVES THE MUFFINS THAT EXTRA "SOMETHING" DELICIOUS.

Buttermilk Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
I liked the flavor, but it looks like....well, I won't name it, so it didn't go over well with my family. Guess I'll just have to eat the rest of it myself! If you don't happen to have buttermilk on hand, you can "make" buttermilk by adding one tablespoon of white vinegar to each cup of milk required----let it sit for a few minutes before adding to your recipe.

Chili Cheese Dog Pot Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
This is a great recipe for leftover chili! I topped it with cornbread, however, since my family likes it better with chili, but it was gobbled up quickly tonight! I think I'll print this recipe out and paste it to the back of my chili recipe. The addition of hotdogs was something my children loved.

Tater Tot Casserole II

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
The flavors are ok, but my dish was dry---I expected it to be moist and somewhat saucy, but the soup, sour cream and cheese just "sat" on top of my tater tots....and I used full-fat ingredients, too. This also does not re-heat well for a possible second-day appearance on the table.

Oven Barbecued Beef Brisket II

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
This brisket definately turned out nice and tender. I didn't have chili sauce, so I used a bottle of chipotle taco sauce with the cola and onion soup mix. Nice flavor! I baked a 4 pound brisket, so next time I might double the sauce ingredients. Very easy recipe! Thank you for sharing.

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
This chicken was very tender and moist---I love the idea of propping it up on tin foil! There was no metal taste, either. This would be good for an alternate way of preparing chicken for other recipes. Thank you!

Ground Beef Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2006
For my family's taste, this recipe is so-so. It gets three stars for ease of preparation, but overall it's not one of our favorites....might be good for a family with younger children, as it's on the mild tasting side and you can kind of hide veggies in it. Thank you anyway.

Quick Cassoulet

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
This was indeed a quick recipe; I only gave it three stars because it was so quick. There's a lack of of flavor due to its quick simmering time. I added leftover ham and 1/2 cup of white wine from another poster's suggestion, and it tasted ok, but I like a cassoulet with more "depth" and complexity. For me, I will make cassoulets with a longer cooking time.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
I like the fact that this recipe calls for melted butter because that speeds things along---no waiting for the butter on your countertop to soften, or the mess of over-microwaved melted butter when you only wanted it soft. I also like the size. I accidently left my cooled cookies out all night, uncovered, and they were still nice and chewy today! Thank you for a great recipe. To add: I made a double batch and spread it all out into a foil-lined jelly roll pan and baked it for 20 minutes (to make a "cookie cake" for my son). It came out delicious, thick, chewy, and again it was still soft and chewy even when left out overnight uncovered! I frosted it with the "Lucious Buttercream Frosting" from this site, and I think it rivaled the ones from the Nestle Toll House Cafe!)

Old Fashioned Sicilian Succo

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2006
This sauce was delicious! I added a carrot, chopped, to balance any acidic tang from the tomatoes (and used crushed tomatoes instead of tomato sauce), added one chopped onion and the whole family raved! I didn't have ground pork on hand, so I used Jimmy Dean bulk sausage with the ground beef for the meatballs and they were great! I will definately be making this recipe again----delicious and easy!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
This is a fabulous recipe! It bakes up beautifully and is great for chocolate fountain dipping because it is so dense (no crumbs to fall into the melted chocolate). I added a bit more vanilla for our taste, and it keeps well in Tupperware for a couple of days at room temperature. Everyone at Christmas raved about this cake. Thank you for sharing!

Easy Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2005
This is very delicious! I used lemon cake mix instead and it was wonderful. Next time I will do what others have suggested by cutting the cream cheese into the cake mix first. I will also add a little sugar to the top for crunch. I used the syrup from canned peaches. Can't wait to make this again.

Cola-Basted Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2005
I made this tonight and my family just LOVED it! It reminded us of HoneyBaked hams, but a lot cheaper! I will definately make this ham again soon. My only tweak was to use less powdered mustard and no Dijon-style mustard because my husband doesn't like mustard (but he doesn't know about the powdered kind in the recipe). Thank you for this recipe.
