Slammin' Salmon

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2014
Very good recipe but for our tastes it's not quite slammin'. We enjoyed tying this and had a great dinner, thanks very much for sharing :)

Lobster Colorado

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2014
I followed this recipe for Valentines Day filets this year, and they were outstanding. I have never cooked steak indoors (always grilled outside), and this recipe gave me perfect results. I did substitute the lobster and browned butter for shrimp in a scampi butter sauce. No changes to the filets though, thanks very much for sharing :)

Linguine Pasta with Shrimp and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2014
Great shrimp pasta recipe. I came across this recipe looking for a fresh veggie-heavy sauce with white wine for some shrimp and produce I picked up on special. I had about 7 cups chopped tomatoes, zucchini and mushrooms so I doubled the wine and butter and used my full 2lbs shrimp. I still used just a pound of pasta and would not have wanted it drier: definitely halve the pasta amount. I added about a half cup of the pasta cooking liquid with the butter which helped thicken the sauce. Lastly I can't bring myself to dirty a pan just to cook the shrimp that will end up in the saucepan anyways. I added mine to the sauce after stirring in the butter with the seasoning (I used extra cayenne not cajun mix) and it cooked up fine. I had no issues with the sauce being sweet, I agree with comments you should make sure to use a good dry white wine. Thanks so much for submitting this recipe, the rich wine and butter with fresh produce was very satisfying :)

Water Chestnuts Wrapped in Bacon

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2014
Very good recipe, but if you marinate as long as the recipe states the chestnuts will be much, much too salty. I will make this again BUT marinate no longer than probably 4 hours. Thanks very much for sharing :)

Pretzel Turtles

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
Flawless. I had big Christmas season baking plans but when working overtime shot those plans down, these candies came to the rescue! I like to drizzle with the melted white candy coating, not very turtle-y but I like the extra layer of flavor and prettiness it adds. I've already passed on the recipe several times. Thanks so much for sharing!

Beef Tips and Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
I haven't been this excited about a new recipe in awhile - we absolutely loved it! Yes this is salty, but the gravy is so good and easy. My cubed rump roast was wonderfully tender baking this way. I'm really excited about using this recipe for potlucks or parties. Thanks so much for sharing!

Sausage and Lentils

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
I think as written the recipe is a little bland for most tastes. We added extra salt and some cayenne pepper seasoning to give it a flavor and it was pretty good. Thanks very much for sharing.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
I see I am way, way out in the minority here but we really didn't like these. The cream cheese was too much for stuffed mushrooms, it was like I crammed a dip into a mushroom cap and warmed it. I saw another reviewer also in the minority mention they preferred bread-y stuffed mushrooms: that must be it, I've eaten these in lots of restaurants and never have I been less impressed than these I took the time to make. I think I must like when seasoned breadcrumbs soak up the moisture from the sauteed mushroom pieces and caps and make a filling. I guess I'll look for other recipes and go from there. Thanks for sharing though, I can tell these are well-liked so I went with 2 stars.

Peanut Buttery Butterfinger Bar

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
FLAWLESS. I made these for Thanksgiving and everyone absolutely raved about them. I made just as directed: butter, 10 chopped fun-size bars (I think that's about the same amount? I don't buy the bites) and natural creamy peanut butter. Very sweet but oh-so-good. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with these bars but I am the first review: hopefully these stay five-star because they really did blow my family away with the peanut-chocolately simplicity. Thanks so much for sharing!

Pasta with Italian Sausage and Pumpkin Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
This was a change of pace for us but not something we will repeat. The sauce was OK but we needed something else/more than cinnamon and nutmeg to flavor it. I did like the pumpkin added, it made the creaminess nicely complex. Thanks for sharing.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
I really liked the cooking method - doing it in the oven freed up space on my stovetop. I do think the temp and cook time are too high - I used a 425 degree oven for about 9 minutes and they probably could have come out at 8. Ovens and shrimp sizes do vary but cooking that long and hot could ruin this recipe. I omitted the mustard and added white cooking wine, just preference for me based on other scampi recipes I've made in the past. I think the full amount of butter is needed, it's just not "scampi" without a buttery sauce. Thanks very much for sharing.

Apple Snicker Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2013
This is a great salad. I was excited to try this version with a box of pudding mix in with the topping but I definitely prefer this made with only the snickers, apples and whipped topping (I like the frozen kind in tubs). With only whipped cream the flavors meld better and it's lighter. The ratio of apples to candy is perfect for me. Thanks so much for sharing!

Chef John's Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2013
Very good gravy, no lumps and great flavor. I made as written but with no added salt as my beef broth had plenty. I imagine this would taste more flavorful with added meat drippings but it's a MUSHROOM gravy, how in the world anyone can fault the recipe that is beyond me. I will make this again and it needs no changes to be 5-star quality, thanks so much for sharing.

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2013
No problems with the recipe. Being a formulated diet recipe I don't think it should be altered much and exactly as written this soup is pretty good. However I will not be making this again...My husband and I have eaten and continue to eat all the ingredients in this recipe with no extra digestive issues, but in this soup we just can't. Not sure if that means it's doing what it's supposed to or not, and I'm not trying to be vulgar, but be advised in our cases that's a significant side effect. I'm glad to have given it a try though, thanks so much for sharing the recipe.

Easy Tuna Patties

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2013
I really enjoyed this recipe. I had no issues with the patties falling apart; I did make 4 large patties though, about burger size and thickness. The mix felt a little wet but they cooked right up. It didn't specify what kind of breadcrumb but I did use fresh wheat breadcrumbs with dried Italian herbs and garlic salt added, that worked perfectly. Served with sauteed bell peppers this was a fast cheap and healthy lunch, thanks so much for sharing.

Sauceless Garden Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2013
Very very good, and super flexible in allowing you to use up/change up different veggies. That being said, this in no way even comes close to fitting everything into a 9x9 pan. Even mounding it. It all did cook down but not enough to get inside the Pyrex 8x11 pan I was using. Especially considering the tomato slices need to cover every bit of noodle or those exposed bits won't cook at all. I will gladly make again, fitting everything into a 13x9 pan. Thanks for sharing :)

Banana Pancakes I

Yummy pancakes, really great texture. I added cinnamon and some mini choco chips and it was like mini banana breads on a plate. This recipe needs no changes though, we were just feeling decadent :) I'll definitely make it again, thanks so much for sharing.
