Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2015
I have made this cobbler and it is quick and easy; however, I found an easier way---I use Bisquick with the added sugar. Each time it comes out great.

Delicious and Easy Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2015
I don't add sugar (if the corn is fresh, it's really not needed). I usually bring water to boil, add the corn, return to just boiling and then turn off the heat and put a lid on the pot. Let steep 10 minutes, and you have fresh, delicious corn that taste as if it just came out of the field. You can use this method on frozen corn on the cob as well. I learned this recipe over 60 years ago from my Mom, a Farmer's Wife.

Roasted Okra

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2014
Even easier, if you are grilling outside, such as steak, chicken, pork, etc, just take whole pods and grill them along side the main dish. They come out slightly chewy (dry) with a nice smoky flavor.

Egg Scramble

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2013
I have made a similar recipe (my own) many times. Depending on what I have available, I use any and/or all the listed ingredients, and sometimes add sliced ripe olives, mushrooms, chopped bell pepper (any color). I refer to it as a Garbaqe Fritatta.

Sour Cream and Chive Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2013
I have made a similar recipe for years; however, I've gotten where I don't even both with the milk. The sour cream is enough.

Cold Green Bean Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2012
I have been making this dish for a very long time. I usually make my own dressing, which I think is tastier.

Curried Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2011
This was much too sweet for my husband and me. Also, the chicken breasts too much longer to cook than stated.

Baking Mix Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2011
This is a great recipe and I make it a lot in the summer using berries and other fruits of the season. Easy and simple. I do not use as much sugar as called for, as we prefer a cobbler that is not quite so sweet.

Best in Show Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
I also received a similar recipe passed down from my Mother and Grandmother. I have used it with all kinds of summer fruits and it has always turned out great. It's a keeper for sure.

The Champagne Cocktail

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
A different take on the classic Champagne cocktail, which I still prefer. This is more like a modified French 75.

Slow-Cooker Posole

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
A good recipe without the fuss of the original. I've been making this version for about 20 years. It never fails to please. I do chop the onions rather than slice, and I add very little water at first, and then, if needed, I'll use the juice from the canned hominy. Now that there is just the 2 of us, I'll make a big batch and freeze for a quick meal later on.

New Mexico Green Chile Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
I would use a lesser cut of beef; I agree with the other reviewers, this is not authentic, but is tasty--

Annex Theater Champagne Cocktail

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
I drink these all the time and love them. One rater recommended a lemon twist--this is a great addition; however, try an orange twist instead--gives an entirely different taste. Yum!

Spicy Steamed Shrimp

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
Good, easy recipe. I agree that 3 oz of Old Bay is quite a lot; I cut it down to 1 oz and then kick it up a little with additional cayenne. I make my own cocktail sauce (super easy), add some sourdough bread, butter and we have a great Summer meal. I usually make this ahead of time and we take it with us when we goout on the Sacramento Delta for an overnight.

Chili Dog Casserole I

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
Easier and less messy than the traditional chili dog. I spiced up the chili with some hot sauce (Pico Pica) and used sharp cheddar cheese. Loved it.

Our Favorite Olive Beef

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
Easy for a day when you're going to be out all day. I found that rinsing the olives takes away much of the saltiness. It's a good fall-back recipe when time is short for prep and you need something when you get home.

Asian-Style Pork Chop Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
A great recipe; we grilled ours outside on the BBQ and it came out great! Reserved the marinade and cooked it down a little for extra sauce and served with rice and a green salad. Our son was visiting that day and really liked it.

Holiday Green Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
This is very similar to one my Grandmother served at ALL holiday dinners. I've made it in the past, but without the milk, and it's always turned out great.

Last Minute Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This recipe would be good, if you remember a couple of things in cooking with mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms should be cooked at more than a medium heat or else they just steam. As for the seasoned salt, mushrooms should only be lightly seasoned AT THE END of cooking after the juices have evaporated. Adding just a dash of nutmeg can make this an outstanding dish.

Favorite Corn Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2008
Great recipe! I didn't add all the sugar, just 2 tablespoons and it turned out great. Also, melted the shortening to facilitate mixing. My hubby says to save the recipe.
