Great recipe. I've been using it for a long time but forgot to rate it. It is excellent.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
Delicious cornbread. Whisking it for 5 minutes made it light and fluffy and not so dense. We added real butter to make it a little sweeter and it was great!

BBQ Glazed Homemade Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
Absolutely delicious. I followed the recipe exactly for the meatballs, except I added in ground turkey with the ground beef. I used a cheap jar of barbecue sauce for the sauce and it was great. The entire family loved them.

Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
This was surprisingly good. I steamed/boiled yellow squash slices and zucchini slices. I didn't drain much of the water. Added onion powder and black pepper. Added a small amount of shredded cheese and a small amount of milk. Mixed it up and served it as a side. The whole family thought it was very good.

Delicious! I didn't use any vinegar at all and this was great. I don't normally like broccoli but I had 3 servings of this delicious recipe!

Chili Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2006
This was great! The only change I made was no green pepper because I didn't have any and lots of chicken because I had lots of it to use! I took a full crockpot (the large size) to the church potluck and brought home only enough to fill one bowl! Lots of compliments from family and church family! Thanks for recipe!

Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
This soup was delicious! My 12 and 14 year olds, my husband, and myself all loved it. I've never had pea soup before but this is a great way to make veggies taste great. I didn't have celery and had no ham bone, so I didn't use those. I did have lots of left over ham in the freezer, tho, and I used lots of it. A really good soup!

Southern Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
Super good mushroom soup! I didn't add the bread or cheese because the soup was really good on it's own. My daughter thought she wouldn't like fresh mushroom soup but we gobbled it up in one day! We had canned mushroom soup the next day and she realized how much better the fresh mushroom soup had been. The whole family asked for it again.

Southern Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
Good fried chicken! I took advice of others and added some onion powder and garlic powder and the taste was great! Not sure what I did wrong but the coating didn't stay on through frying as well as I would have liked, but the taste of the delicious seasoning permeated the chicken anyway. Everybody enjoyed. Thanks for recipe!

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
This was super easy. The family loved it, but I thought it tasted quite a bit like Hamburger Helper. For as easy as it was, tho, I thought it was a fine recipe. Thanks!

Ramen Frittata with Ham and Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2006
I made this recipe with a little more ham than called for and used regular onions instead of green onions. The time to set the egg was significantly longer than the time listed on the recipe and it was hard to tell when the egg was fully set. However, my 14 and 12 year old kids loved this dish!! We had it for lunch but my daughter thought it would be a great breakfast meal. They both gave it 5 stars. My husband and I weren't quite as fond of it but thought it was pretty good. We each gave it a 3, so we averaged it out to 4 stars overall. My son said to rate it as "EXCELLENT!"

Butternut Squash Soup II

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2005
My family and I liked this soup. We are big potato eaters and I had a few left so I added more potato than called for in the recipe. I also added some garlic and just a shake or two of chili powder to spice it up. My family asked if I would make it again.

I took the advice of one of the other reviewers and added some cooked diced potaoes. It added some substance to the soup, which was quite thin. The taste of the soup was great. The kids liked it as well.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2009
I started to prepare exactly as directed. However, when my machine beeped for me to check my dough ball, my dough was not a ball at all - it was very much like the consistency of glue. I slowly added 4 handfuls of bread flour to make the dough ball. It worked fine although the dough was still super sticky. The bread came out fine - I brushed mine with melted butter during the last minute or two and the crunchiness of my crust was great. I'm not sure of how chewy a french baguette usually is, but mine was a little chewier than I like - could have been too much flour, could have been the way it was supposed to turn out; I'm not sure. This is a very cool recipe and ended up being a relatively easy way to make something so different than what we normally eat. Thanks for the submission!

Smoked Sausage in Mushroom Wine Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2005
In defense of this recipe, I must admit that the smoked sausage I used when trying this recipe didn't taste very good. However, I think even with the best sausage, this recipe would still be bland. For my family, this recipe was not good at all. We thought it was very bland and had an unpleasant texture. We tried it over rice but no one liked it.
