Make Ahead French Toast

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
I made this for a graduation party, and everyone liked it. Some people loved it, some thought it was a little too sweet. I used about 1 C less milk, so it wasn't soggy. Next time I would definitely decrease the caramel sauce. But, it was all gobbled up.

Rocky Road Ice Cream

Reviewed: May 18, 2011
I liked the flavor of this ice cream, but I think almonds would have been better than pecans. I will make again using chopped almonds.

Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
I found there to be too much cinnamon, which may be what gave a bitter aftertaste.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
This was good. I couldn't find Poppyseed buns ANYWHERE though. I had never thought of putting peppers on a hot dog. That was our favorite part.

Italian Style Sausage

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
I liked the concept, but this didn't have enough seasonings. I would probably do this again, but add more seasonings.

Southwestern Chicken and White Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
This was okay. Too spicy for my daughter, and I wasn't wowed, but my husband thought it was excellent. Three stars from me, Five from him. The only change I made were to use black beans instead of white (family preference). I used cooked, shredded chicken, and Medium Pace Salsa.

Strawberry Syrup

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
My 2-year old asked for a bowl of this...to drink!!! So, it passed the taste test and went wonderfully on our Mammaw's Belgian Waffles (from this site.)

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
This was okay. A little bland and watery. Not much depth of flavor. I'm sure it will be better tomorrow, as all italian food is, so I'm giving it 4* instead of 3*.

Dawn's Candied Walnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
My two year old and I can't stop eating these. They are so good. I wasn't even sure about the candy stages, but I just cooked the mixture about 8 minutes and called it good. I love these in salads too!

Croutons

This was a good basic recipe. I used homemade garlic butter and it was very good.

Toasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Oregano is a very strong spice, so I used Italian Seasoning instead. I also added 2 TBS olive oil, instead of teaspoons, for a silkier texture and better melting. With these changes, it was excellent.

Slow-Cooker Tex-Mex Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
I will definitely be making this dish again...the ease of preparation was wonderful. It didn't even take me 10 minutes to get everything in the slow cooker. That being said, there were a few things I'd want to change next time. First, the bell peppers got very limp and soggy...I would put them in halfway through. Secondly, the flavor has a lot of spice from the taco seasoning and salsa, but not much flavor otherwise. I would probably add an onion and garlic next time. But, I did like it served over rice with pinto beans.

Lime Cilantro Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This was okay, pretty good actually. I think there may have been a little too much lime...not sure I would zest it next time.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
The flavor was pretty good, though not chocolatey enough for us. Also, my pudding had these little congealed bits in it, though I stirred constantly. I let it cool overnight, and the texture was so coagulated, I had to toss it. I really wanted to love this, sorry.

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
This was delicious bread. It reminded me of my Gramma's bread. I just don't know the purpose of mixing all the ingredients THEN letting it rise, which is much more time consuming than the normal proofing of yeast and sugar in warm water. So, since I followed the recipe to a T, it took quite a while, as it was a "three rise" recipe. I might just proof the yeast next time instead of going through the process of mixing all the ingredients and then rising. But, it was still delicious. I only have one loaf pan, so I cut the recipe by 1/3, made one loaf last night, and stuck the rest of the dough in the fridge for today.

Cilantro-Lime Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
I wish I would have cut the balsamic or omitted it altogether. It was strong and made the dressing too sweet. I'm hoping it will balance out when I put it on lettuce, but as is, it's too sweet.

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
The flavor of these is wonderful. I made them as-is, except for adding about 2 TBS of flaxseed. I baked them about 18 minutes, but they were just a little crumbly after cooling. I will probably make them again, as it's a pretty healthy snack for my two-year old, and quite easy to make. UPDATE-I let these cool an entire day, and they held together well the longer they sat. Will definitely make again.

Baked Ziti II

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
This had the flavor of lasagna without all the work. I added some ground beef, because I had it, and mixed it with the pasta and sauce. I put that on the bottom, then added the ricotta mixed with parmesan, then finished it off with a layer of mozzerella. My husband really enjoyed it.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
These were very good, though a little time consuming. I would probably make them again. I didn't have instant yeast, so I proofed my yeast in the heated milk mixture with the sugar before adding the flour. I also used half whole wheat flour. I made them a little smaller--got about 16 hamburger buns to the batch--and made slider style burgers.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies IV

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
We really liked these. I only had 3 oz of Macadamia Nuts, but it was still good. The only problem I had was the middle was not quite cooked when the bottoms were almost burnt. I would probably decrease the oven temperature to 350 next time?
