About this Cook
Married 34 yrs, retired Air Force family, well traveled. I love to experiment and make up my own recipes by walking through the grocery store and picking ingredients I am in the mood for and making up a dish. Or using what I have on hand and inventing a dish.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make things that I know will please my family. When my kids were in school, I would try to have something coming out of the oven when they came home. They are adults now, but still talk about coming up the walk to the smell of cookies or gingerbread or brownies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My kids would say Christmas cookies probably, but for me it's Thanksgiving foods and Hanukkah Latkes! (We are a blended family celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah)
My cooking triumphs
I ran a home cake decorating business for 8 years, 4 of which were in Europe. We were stationed in Holland. I did my first wedding cakes there and really got alot of experience.
My cooking tragedies
Ironically, I haven't had any. If something doesn't come out, it isn't a trajedy, you go out to eat or make something else. It's a learning experience and some of my flops have produced great laughs!!! That's part of learning!

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread
This was great, although I did change it around as most of you suggest by decreasing the molasses and increasing the spices. I didn't want to add sour cream, why add more fat? So I added a half cup applesauce and also added 1 T. of grated orange peel. It was moist and yummy and definitely will be a favorite. Very easy recipe.
