Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2013
This is a great basic pancake recipe--I have since memorized it and make it weekly. I've grown a bit lazy and now skip the sour milk, opting instead to use straight buttermilk (when I have it) or 2%---tastes great. The buttermilk makes a thicker batter that I don't prefer--I usually thin it out with a tad more water to get the consistency I like.

Bread Bowl Fondue

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
My 17 year old daughter made this for tonight's New Year's Eve dinner. It is FANTASTIC!!!. The consistency is smooth and the taste is mellow! We added some finely chopped fresh spinach and crumbled bacon--makes a beautiful presentation-- and used a fresh sourdough round from the local bakery. I can't wait until the dip gets low and I can slice off a big hunk of the bread bowl itself--YUM!! This is a keeper.

French Toast Corners

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
This was very tasty, simple to make and includes ingredients that you're sure to have on hand. Although, I was missing extract and cinnamon--I substituted apple pie spice and just left out the extract. All I had on hand was whole wheat, but it worked. Next time I'll try some real THICK sourdough!

Dad's Peach Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2008
Just made this and was very creamy. I must add that the texture was a bit airy--I prefer a denser, icier ice cream, but this was good. The only thing I did different was to cool the mixture for 1 hr instead of 2. The guests rushed me to finish it! Maybe that was the difference--but everybody raved and there was none left.

Bread Pudding III

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2007
This was a good recipe to start with as a foundation, but like most foundations you need to build upon it. It was a little bland. The bread pudding I grew up with was sweeter. I think the next time, I'll start with cinnamon raisin bread, use a little more sugar, and add some rum. I made a homemade caramel sauce to this recipe to give it some oomph! But this is a good basic recipe.

Whisky Tea

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2007
I only give it 4 stars because I'm not a tea drinker (love my java!). But, I have to say that this was very good. I was worried about getting too buzzy or drunk, but the warmth of the drink really made the whiskey smoooth. I used Equal. Very comforting and toasty.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
Anybody who doesn't rate this a 5 Star--doesn't know cc cookies or they did something wrong. This is the BEST BEST BEST cc cookie recipe anywhere. It's a perfect medium between crisp and chewy. I usually spread the batter in a large pan and then cut into as many squares as I want. I have even sepaRated the batter into springform pans and made birthday cookies!!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2007
I took one look at the pic and then knew this was the poundcake for me--DENSE, crunchy crust at the top, and moist, moist moist! This is good, old-fashoined pound cake like you used to get at church bake sales. Don't change anything--you'll ruin it!Although, the next time, I'll use lemon flavoring--I'm just partial to lemon in pound cakes. This is the best---don't overcook! I took mine out after 1 hr and about 10 min--still moist and glistening on top.

Swedish Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
Very good and satisfying to the taste buds. I woke up craving this and this recipe fit the bill. I always like to add a little sour cream to mine--and it was just great. We ate them over wide egg, buttered noodles. Dee-lish!!

Apple Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
I really thought that from all of the rave reviews that this would be sensational. I was hoping for more of a crunch than a chewy sensation. Also, I couldn't get them to turn the golden brown as in the photo. Next time I get a sweet tooth for some apples and pastry, I'll stick with pies or maybe try a dumpling recipe, instead.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
I knew it was going to be good based on the reviews. But, I didn't expect such a PERFECT buttery, caramelized, crunchy glaze! This is soooo much better than store bought. I followed the advice of others and kept my popped corn heated in my big blue broiler (lined with wax paper) while the caramel cooked. I placed nuts in my caramel after I finished cooking, then drizzled. I only stirred the corn 2 times and couldn't take it anymore.... we had to try it. We poured it onto waxed paper and let cool for only 30 minutes. Great!

Double-Decker Fudge

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2005
My daughter and I followed the recipe with exact precision. We allowed it to cool 'completely' for about 2 hrs. It had the consistency of a very thick frosting. Put it in the fridge for a while in an attempt to get it to harden. Any suggestions?

Cheesy Spinach Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2005
Not good. Was much too bland. The cheese was too thick. Something was missing in the recipe--not the meat, mind you. It was just .....blah, ho-hum, nothing to write home about. Don't waste your ingredients on this one.

The Whole Jar of Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2005
This was a good recipe as far as taste and texture was concerned. But, like another reviewer, I thought the cookie was just a tad bit oily. I was so concerned about over baking, that I took it them out after 10 min. ( I made them large, like you find in the cookie stores). But a pretty good cookie. Not CAKEY--but dense and MOIST !!!!
