I've been meaning to write this for a while now.  I started thinking about this subject way back before I'd been hurled into the living between two cities and the only thing I had to compare life to was "how it was back in the USofA".   Now I, or my husband, have been traveling often between… MORE

When I moved to Italy I had the opportunity to meet and stay with Sicilians.  It taught me a lot about culture and food.  One thing I noticed was there was no salt and pepper on the table.  The condiments of choice were extra virgin olive oil, the greener and thicker-the better, some sort of… MORE

Addio a un amico This is not food related.  Yesterday I lost a friend.   Francesco Fornabaio.  We weren't terribly close.  We were more business friends than anything.  My job was to help him reach the English language level required by all International pilots.  Once he passed his test we… MORE

GF spaghetti is disgusting at high altitudes.  It's true.  Barilla has made a GF pasta that is to die for.  Finally a decent pasta for this ever growing GF population.  I even make it for my non GF family and everyone seems to like it. They even have to ask if their pasta is GF or not… MORE

I love baked potatoes.  I hate hot ovens heating up my house in the summer and in the winter. This latter is because, as I've beached about before in a previous post, I don't have control over my heating so the house is 700° in the winter and the oven only makes it worse.  Also, the oven uses… MORE

10 days, 3 continents, 8 countries, 1 car, 4 planes, 0 tummy aches!  And I have no idea how I did it.  :-) The last time I went on a trip with my husband we left a day late because I was in the emergency room finding out that I was indeed celiac and had completely ruined my intestine and would… MORE

As I drank my tea this morning I heard some nutcase outside singing "O' sole mio" at the top of his lungs.  He was pretty good actually.  I can't see out my windows since the spring has blossomed all the leaves in front of all my windows so I just sat there and listened.   Yesterday around… MORE

The other day on the buzz someone was looking for a way to sweeten oatmeal without adding straight sugar.  I suggested adding applesauce, "the real kind" I wrote.  I then suggested a simple way to make fresh, homemade, applesauce.  It is easy.  Not too many dirty dishes to clean, it's… MORE

Easter is over yet the kids are still home from school.  In the days prior to the Easter break, looking over the AR website, I attempted to find recipes that my kids (aged 11 to 15) can make on their own to keep them busy by letting them experiment in the kitchen.  It is easy for me to adapt… MORE

It has been said to always remember to stop and smell the roses.  This blog entry is actually a survey to help everyone do just that.  This was sparked by my eating strawberries with balsamic vinegar the other day.  I'd heard about this combo for years but never had the courage to try it.  It… MORE
