Slow Cooker Vegetable Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
Not to my liking, but I think that it's a good recipe for those who enjoy this type of dish.

Southern Pulled Pork

Delicious, exactly what I was looking for. Used with Big Al's K.C. BBQ sauce recipe on this site and it was to die for.

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2010
This is really, really delicious. I did not have liquid smoke so used some Worcestershire sauce instead. Used the sauce with the Southern style pulled pork recipe on this site and it is so good, I couldn't stop sampling it. Also freezes and keeps well.

Butternut Squash Bisque

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
Exceptional. Just like a restaurant. I had to leave out the carrots and it was still delicious. Served it in homemade bread bowls and we were all very full after that meal.

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
Very easy to make. I used bread flour and olive oil as substitutes. I added about a teaspoon each of crushed red pepper and Italian seasoning...should have added more to give a little flavor. We ate butternut squash bisque (recipe on the site) and it was very filling.

Lemon Lush

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
Delicious! I didn't have lemon pudding but did have vanilla so reduced the milk and added some lemon juice, tasted extremely lemony so probably used too much. What I like about it is that you can probably use any flavor pudding you like and have a different dessert. I also made my own whip cream for the top.

Spoiled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
It's the perfect no-nonsense BBQ sauce. I didn't have any liquid smoke, but I'm sure it would increase the flavor even more. I made two batches so people could drizzle more on if they wanted. I'll never buy BBQ sauce again.

Coconut Icebox Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2010
A nice mild cookie, very light flavor. I baked them at 350 and they still came out a little too crunchy for my taste, next time will make them bigger as the larger ones were more chewy. Also, I did not have coconut extract so made my own: soaked 1T of coconut in 3t vanilla for a few hours and then strained out the soaked coconut and used the vanilla in the cookies.

Whole Wheat Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
Great wheat with sweet flavor. Tastes just like my grandmother used to make. It has a crunchy outside and a soft middle with makes it great for toasting and grilling, probably not so great for sandwiches. I halved the recipe and made one regular loaf and one round loaf in a cast iron skilled. Both turned out great. I always brush with butter to give the bread shine and stay soft.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Great teriyaki sauce. I used pork instead of chicken, also omitted the cornstarch and cooked the chops in the mixture.

Broccoli Cheese New Potato Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Yummy recipe, very filling! Few changes... I didn't have cream of broccoli so used a can of cream of chicken soup and mashed up some frozen broccoli and a little cheese with it, tasted great. Also didn't have red chili sauce so used some red pepper flakes, it definitely had a bite and was a big hit. I mixed in the Parmesan and cooked it in a slow cooker because I needed the oven for something else.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
My sister and I really liked it, it was extremely filling! It was a little too "chickeny" so I think I will do about half the granules next time and will add some bacon for flavor. I skipped the celery because I didn't want to buy a whole bundle (the rest would go to waste). I added several carrots instead which gave it nice color and flavor. It also needed more spice so I dumped in some chives and garlic salt. It's a good starting base recipe that you can add to.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
It was good! I proofed the yeast first before adding the white flour by combining the warm water, honey, and yeast... let it sit about 15 minutes and then add the flour and let it sit again for half hour... worked well. I think it was a little too sweet for my taste in wheat bread so next time I will not add so much honey, maybe will try a little oil instead.

Praline Sundae Topping

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
Fantastic! Seriously, this may be my favorite recipe of all-time. I had to make a few interesting changes based on what I had and what was available... first, I didn't have large marshmallows so I substituted with the little ones, estimating that a scant 1/3 cup would equal 1 large marshmallow. Second, my food co-op doesn't carry corn syrup but they gave me some brown rice syrup that you can substitute (worked like a charm and its so much healthier and tastes way better). Third, I did not add the vanilla. Note: you need pay really close attention when making this to get the boiling and stirring just right... I used a wisk when I added the evaporated milk and that worked well, you have to stir for a long time to get it smooth... just keep going! I've used it in the following ways: punch 15 holes in a chocolate cake and pour over the top while still warm, add a few spoons to a cup of hot apple cider (fresh is best!), over pancakes with cooked apples, coffee, and of course ice cream. Really, I cannot say enough good things about this one, I'm a caramel junkie and this recipe takes the cake... thank you so much for sharing!

Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
I was delightfully surprised! I had to change a few things: I left out the ginger and salt because I don't care for ginger and chicken broth is so salty already. I also took another users advice and added the cornstarch mixture before adding the egg... worked fine. I also only used one tablespoon of cornstarch because I don't like this soup too thick.

Monkey Bread II

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
The bread part of this recipe is very good; however, the glaze left a little something to be desired. It sort of separated and was gritty. You can also do the bread part by hand as I did: warm the water and add the white sugar until dissolved, then add yeast and allow to form a light foam (about 10 minutes) then add remaining flour. If you have a high-test mixer you can use the bread hook and it works well, if not you can do it by hand as well. After its all mixed turn it out on a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 10 minutes). Cover with a light dish towel and set it in a warm place to rise for an hour. Punch the dough down and knead about 1 minute, then let it sit for 15 minutes and continue with the recipe.

Alfredo Sauce

Delicious and easy! I used only Parmesan because that's all I had and it turned out great. I used it for sauce on Alfredo pizza but I bet its great on noodles too!
