About this Cook
I am a home cook that grew up in the kitchen of my Grandmothers. My Mother, both Grandmothers and my 7 aunts all cook, bake and can so cooking was a pre-req in my family. I enjoy nothing more than cooking or baking for friends and family and knowing that I can put a smile on their face with something I made. It's not unusual for me to make cupcakes, cakes, or pot luck dishes for my partners work place of 75 for holidays, birthdays or just for whatever.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking everything to be honest but I love to bake cakes and cupcakes so I can decorate them! Also, I learned to make homemade pie crust last year so now I love making apple pie. Besides baking, I really enjoy making dishes from my upbringing which includes traditional southern favorites such as baked Macaroni & Cheese, Collard Greens, fried chicken and all the classic down home southern treats. I also enjoy finding new recipes that I have never tried making but always enjoy eating. I have
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mother always made Sunday dinner and it was always a full spread of chicken or fish (normally fried), macaroni & cheese, Okra & tomatoes, rice, Collards or mixed (collards, turnip and/or chard) greens, normally followed with bread pudding or chess pie. The meal was normally never varied and I never wanted it to be! I still stay true to this meal at least once a month. My Mother was a single working Mom so Sunday was one of the very few (if not only) times during the week that we were all together. This is a meal that immediately brings me back to the feeling of home, family and comfort!
My cooking triumphs
Learning to bake! In the past 12 months (at 49 years old) I learned to make homemade pie crust AND Pizza dough. I am so proud of them both.
My cooking tragedies
A fully decorated half chocolate and half yellow birthday cake that split right in two!

Asian Orange Chicken
I agree with others that said this was a gloppy mess. I apparently made the same mistakes because the flour on the chicken only served to make the sauce like Jello. It was way too thick and lumpy. The sugar is way too much, the corn starch and/or flour is way too much and I wasn't even a fan of the amount of garlic. I followed the recipe exactly and thought I followed the direction exactly. So I'm not sure what went wrong. I won't be trying this again.

Old-Fashioned Wilted Lettuce
I was looking for a wilted lettuce recipe that my Grandmother always made when I was growing up and I loved. I saw many available on this and other sites but they all called for white sugar and I knew that my grandmothers didn't contain sugar. Then I came across this one and although my Grandmother didn't add the eggs This is the recipe!! AND what is odd is my Grandmother was born and raised in Indiana. Born in a small town called Wabash and retired to the "Big City" (Ft. Wayne. So maybe this is the Indiana version. In any case it's delicious and just as I remembered and now thanks to this recipe I can share it with my family and introduce my Florida friends to it!!! Thank you so much for publishing this version. It's the best.

Pumpkin Bread Puddin'
This was FANTASTIC! Two of my favorite desserts are bread pudding and pumpkin pie so this was a hit at my house!!!! Neither me or my wife care much for chocolate so I left off the chocolate chips and it was just delicious. I will make it again and again! Thanks for such a great and original recipe!
