Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
This was my first attempt at cinnamon raisin bread and OMG it turned out delicious! I followed the recipe exact, other than adding extra raisins ;) I wasn't sure what size or shape of a large rectangle to make and after my first attempt I now have a better idea. Also, instead of spreading milk on the dough I put some melted butter, I don't know why, I guess I thought it'd give it extra buttery flavor but I think it helped the dough suck in the cinnamon and sugar because I didn't have much swirling going on. Besides that, the bread was a HIT and was devoured. I was told it was the best cinnamon raisin bread they've ever had. Sweet deal!! I made it for brunch with the in-laws, so I only really needed 1 loaf. I froze 2 of the loaves before the final rise to save for later. Next time, I'll use the milk.

Grandma's Meat Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
This recipe is FABULOUS! I did make a few changes though. I substituted the veal and steak with ground turkey (less fat), I seasoned the meat and added chopped onion while browning and I added chopped mushrooms to the simmering sauce. Plus I was only patient enough to let it simmer for about 45 min. I used it as a lasagne sauce. The sauce was slightly runny when I assembled the lasagne, but thickened quite nicely in the oven. My husband said it was restaurant quality. I gave half the lasagne to my mom, and she asked for the recipe because she & her husband liked it so much! I will definitely make this again!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2013
Hands down THE best pancake recipe here! I have tried Fluffy, Buttermilk, etc etc recipes that were bland and flat. In my teens, I always busted out my mom's Betty Crocker cookbook for pancakes. The recipe page took a beating and I thought I'd remember it. Anyway, years later I've been searching for a replacement, and I've finally found it! This recipe is foolproof. Dry ingredients in a bowl, no sifting, just whisk. Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla then add along with melted butter into dry. I heat my griddle while I whisk, no "resting time" needed! Makes THE fluffiest pancakes. I find it to be perfect balance of sweet and salty. Oh, and I get 6-8 cakes per batch.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Reviewed: May 11, 2013
I don't get the red velvet hype however, it's my hunny's favorite. I had yet to find a decent recipe until now...thiis was a hit. I omitted the sour cream only because I forgot to buy it and I was on a time crunch, so I added a little more milk to make up for the lost moisture. Will definitely make again, WITH the sour cream next time! And if your cakes are coming out dry, you're over baking. These are very moist and delicious. I didn't have to bake the entire 20 minutes.

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
I'm not sure what exactly that milk is doing to that flour while you let it sit there for 30 minutes, so I don't really see the point in the odd instructions. I did, however, follow the ingredient measurements to a T and put them in my bread machine on dough cycle, according to manufacturer instructions. I didn't melt the butter, just cut it into small bits and added it to the warm liquids at the bottom of my bread pan. Once the dough cycle finished, I continued with recipe instructions. I made slightly larger rolls to be used for pulled pork and OMG was it delicious!! I also did an egg wash (1 egg white + 2tsp water) prior to baking because...shiny! Anyway, the taste and texture of these rolls are amazing and I will definitely be making these again!

Pancakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2014
The recipe AS IS, is not very good. Flat, rubbery pancakes. I made this recipe because of the high rating, I should not have to read through all of the reviews to find out what everyone did to make this a 5 star recipe. Please review the recipe as it is!! I will not make this recipe again.

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
These weren't that great. I followed the recipe exact. The muffins themselves didn't taste too great and the only saving grace with the kids was the cinnamon and sugar. They soaked up so much butter and were quite the PITA to coat, very time consuming. I won't be making these again.
