About this Cook
I recently got married and started back to school part time majoring in Social Work. I work full time and go to school at night which makes for a very full day! My husband and I enjoy playing with our dogs and working out together at the YMCA. I have lived in Alabama almost all my life but have spent some time in Mississippi and Texas as well. I love weekends at the beach and spending as much time with friends and family as possible.
My favorite things to cook
These days I love anything that can be made in a crockpot! My husband is a very picky eater and I try my best to balance his likes with healthy choices so we eat a lot of chicken at our house. I love the Garlic Chicken recipe I found here and Southern comfort foods are my favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmothers are both stellar cooks and always make the holidays special with traditional Southern fare. I love the indulgence of cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, fried chicken, and pear preserves. But these are not things that one can eat everyday! I loved that when visiting my grandparents that everything we ate was fresh and usually from their own garden. There is nothing like waking up to homemade blueberry muffins straight from the bush.
My cooking triumphs
I cooked my first holiday meal for my Father, sister, and fiance last Christmas. I have to say that while Pot Roast with Mashed Potatoes and a dessert of Bread Pudding was not what I would have considered traditional Christmas dinner it was excellent. I even made my fiance Bacon Wrapped Shrimp since he doesn't like roast. I have to say that even for a first meal this was a triumph. I found all the recipes here at AllRecipes and bragged on myself for weeks.
My cooking tragedies
I'm sure there have been plenty including my attempt to alter a baked chicken recipe and all beginning attempts at frying chicken.

Too Much Chocolate Cake
Excellent. Comes out perfect everytime. Very moist and very rich. No need for icing, a simple dusting with powdered sugar dresses it up nicely. Otherwise this is so easy and taste spectacular.

The Best Banana Pudding
I have made a version of this recipe before using these exact ingridients with great results. However after two attempts at this recipe I ended up with a lumpy glue like mess. I'm sure it had to be something I did wrong because everyone else seemed to have great results. I tried a similar recipe on this site two nights later with fantastic results so who knows!
