Mrs Espy's Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
I've discovered I like making my own sauces since I get to control what goes in and this recipe is no exception. I followed the recipe exactly the first time and found it a good start but there were some things missing. Looking through the other reviews, I agree. Added 1-2 tsp of sugar, some cumin, and used chicken broth instead of water and wowza so much better.

Jagerschnitzel

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
This recipe is so addicting! My husband continually asks for "that pork chop and mushroom thing". Based off the recipe as is, I give it 4 stars only because canned mushrooms are disgusting and really impacts the flavor of the rest of the ingredients. I used them the first time I made this and have used fresh ever since. Also I found that seasoning the flour with some salt, pepper, allspice, and garlic powder really gives it that something special. I rarely have beef bouillon so I just use a can of chicken broth and it always comes out super.

I cut back on the allspice a bit, using half since it's a bit overpowering.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

These put those sugar cookies you get from the grocer's bakery to shame!!! I was never a big fan of sugar cookies but after using this recipe, they are my cookie of choice. Excellent!!!!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
Delicious with a capital D!!! The only change I made was substituting potato for the celery (only because I didn't have celery, plus pot pies have to have potatoes IMHO). My family loved it and get excited when I tell them I'm making this for dinner.

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I will never eat canned cranberries again! These were great. The only thing I think I would change though is using water instead of OJ. To me the OJ added to the cranberries tartness making a conflicting taste of overly tart yet sweet.

Sausage Casserole

This was an okay recipe. It was definately filling and easy to make. My husband and son liked it, but I thought something was missing. It needed some other flavor but I can't figure out what. I might make it again to see if it's better the second time around.

Basic British Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
These are awesome. The only thing I did different was replace the margarine with butter and increased the sugar to 1/4 cup. My husband is a scone addict and would always buy them at Starbucks. Now he won't even give those ones a second glance.

Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
5 stars for ease, 3 for taste. Given this was my first attempt at homemade Biscuits & Gravy, I thought it was super easyto make. Flavor wise, it was kind of bland at first even though I did let it simmer while I made the biscuits so it would have time to marry all the flavors, but it was still a bit bland for my taste though my husband said it was great. The left overs the next day though were awesome. I might try cooking it the day before and then reheating and see what kind of results I get then.

Oreo® Cookie Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2008
A friend of mine got this recipe off the website and gave it to me to try. I used chocolate pudding instead of vanilla. It is soooooo good. My family asks for me to make it whenever I can. I think adding some mint extract or even Kahula, Amaretto, or Bailey's for the grown ups would be a yummy addition to the pudding.
