Seven Layer Dip I

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
Wow, AMAZING!!! This was a HUGE hit at a recent barbecue. I am not a big fan of this type of food, but I thoroughly enjoyed this! Having had it both ways, I agree that it is better at room temperature (and it's easier to scoop when it's not cold). The guacamole added such a fresh taste to this dish. I will definitely make this again, this recipe is a keeper.

Chicken Oreganato

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2011
Two words: juicy, delicious! I might experiment with some other seasonings because although it did have a heaping helping of oregano, that flavor didn't really do it for me. I might add some more lemon, too. All in all this is definitely a meal I would make again.

Juicy Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I was floored by this chicken. WHY was it so good?!? Even the white meat was incredibly moist and delicious. I have never seen my kids vacuum up chicken so quickly; one of them didn't even like chicken until I put this on their plate! I didn't have celery and I used butter instead of margarine. My chicken was 7# and of course I can't remember how long it took to cook, I just set the timer for 2 hours and then checked the temp until it was done. I served with stuffing w/ apples and onions and it was a huge hit. Thank you!!!

Oven Fried Chicken II

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
FABULOUS recipe with delicious results! I did everything according to the recipe with the exception that I only had 8 pieces of chicken, not 12. Next time I'll use less flour and less breadcrumbs because I think there would have been a lot left over even if I had used 12 thighs. Everyone in the family loved the chicken, from my husband all the way down the line of 5 kids to my 2 year old. I will definitely make this again!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
These are almost unbearably delicious! I have never made muffins from scratch before and I'm sure I made a few mistakes, but the muffins still came out wonderfully. My husband raved about them and it was hard to convince my kids that they should only eat one. I would love to test this with bananas and nuts or other fillings, but I doubt I'll ever try another base recipe!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
The Parmesan didn't melt well and it was very lumpy and unappetizing. I think I prefer premade, jarred alfredo sauce to this. I have made alfredo sauce in the past that turned out beautifully so I don't think the results were my fault, though they could have been. Either way, I won't be making this again and will go back to another recipe.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
I don't care for spaghetti, but my husband and kids love it so I make it every once in a while. Now that I have found this recipe, I might do it every week. It is preposterously good!!! Like others, I was hesitant to cook the meatballs in the sauce, but I'm glad I followed the recipe as written. When my husband got home and tasted a meatball, he was raving about how delicious it was: evenly cooked, not falling apart, and restaurant-quality (a big compliment coming from him!).

Beaker's Vegetable Barley Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I am adding this recipe to my regular circulation. I thought it was delicious. I had to make a few adjustments: I omitted Worcestershire sauce to make it vegetarian, I omitted tomatoes because my son has an allergy, and I omitted curry because I didn't have any. I thought the tomatoes would have been a nice touch but even without them, this soup was outstanding, and had the perfect consistency. I served it alongside grilled cheese sandwiches but really, the soup was hearty enough to eat by itself.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I have paid a lot of money at gourmet bakeries to buy cookies that are right on a par with these. I am notoriously bad at baking cookies, but these turned out perfectly! I frosted about half of them with Kathy Brandt's Sugar Cookie Frosting (on AllRecipes.com) and left the other half plain. Both kinds were big hits with everyone. I had a problem that some other reviewers mentioned...once the dough was introduced to room temperature after overnight refrigeration, it started to get very sticky and hard to work with after a few minutes. Solutions: Put it back in the fridge while you're waiting to free up cookie sheets, or measure out dough with a spoon, roll it into a ball, and flatten it on the cookie sheet. I did the latter and they turned out great. Try dying half the dough with food coloring and creating a marble cookie - very fun!

Original Nestle® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
WE HAVE A WINNER!!! I am infamous for being really bad at baking cookies. I am usually a good cook but my cookies always come out thin and feel like bricks. Finally, finally, FINALLY I have come across a recipe that is so perfect that even I can make *delicious* and perfectly-formed cookies out of it. I made a batch yesterday and they're all completely gone, so I'm doing another one today. Excellent!!!

Ultimate Party Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
Don't let the short and somewhat odd ingredient list fool you: These really are the ULTIMATE party meatballs. We have had these at several different parties now, and each time, our guests look a little embarrassed and apologize for stuffing themselves with so many meatballs. They are incredible!

Anna's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Usually my cookies come out too thin, so I was pleasantly surprised when these cookies puffed up nicely. They didn't really taste like chocolate chip cookies, though...they were kind of cake-like.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
These were INCREDIBLE! This was the first time I've ever attempted to make scones, so I followed the recipe as written, with the exception that I drizzled them with a powdered sugar and water glaze when I was finished. Putting the butter out at room temperature until it was slightly softened made it easier to cut it in with knives (I don't have a pastry blender). I can't wait to make these again with various fruits or chocolate, they were absolutely delicious and the whole family loved them.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
These were great - fluffy as promised, with a great taste. My only (small) complaint was that they didn't seem to keep very long. The first ones I made were sort of rubbery by the time I finished cooking all of them. Other than that they were great. My family loved them. I used a 1/4 measuring cup to measure out each pancake and found that this was a pretty generous recipe - it definitely made more than 8 good-sized pancakes.

Bread Pudding II

I didn't care for it. We ended up throwing it away instead of eating it. I will give it credit, though, because it was a very easy-to-follow recipe and the measurements and cooking times were perfectly accurate.

Meringue Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
These are AWESOME!!! I would give them a higher rating if I could. They were so easy to make, despite that I have only made meringue once or twice in my life. I didn't find it time-consuming at all - the prep was simple, and the long part was the bake time which requires no active work. The mushrooms look great, and as a plus, they are absolutely delicious...I had to make myself stop snacking on them so I could use them for my buche de noel. :) Thank you so much for this excellent recipe.

Cajun Corn and Bacon Maque Choux

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
Turned out great with no modifactions. If/when I make this again I'll dice the onions rather than slice them for the sake of consistency and to make it easier to eat. It went over really well at a covered dish luncheon.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
I eliminated the onion and used onion powder instead. About 45 minutes through the cook time, I took the potatoes out of the oven to see if they were almost done. I tasted them and found them a little bland, so I added some ground thyme, oregano, ground black pepper, and salt. I stirred it up really well and put it back in the oven uncovered for another half hour. I was nervous when I tasted it - it was bland and pretty soupy - but it ended up being very good. I took it to a girls' night and my friends gobbled it down.

Amazing Chicken

This recipe also works very well with boneless pork chops. Make it the same way, just with a different kind of meat. I hate mayonnaise, too, but the taste is very subtle and the meal turns out very nicely.

Quick and Easy Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
One of my children ate it without broth; the other three either picked at it or didn't even touch it. My parents seemed to like it. I thought the taste was so-so. I think I used a bad brand of egg noodles or something, because I put them in when the recipe indicated and they turned into a nasty goop. When I stirred the soup, it looked like cream of chicken soup, but it had egg noodle goo in the bottom.
